Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I'm having issues with my ethernet backhaul for the past few months. The only solution that I find working is to disconnect the ethernet cable (connected from one deco to another) and reconnect it again. Is there any other issue causing this? It's happening daily now.

Here's my setup:

ISP Modem ----Ethernet Cable 1----> Deco M5 Unit 1 ----Ethernet Cable 2----> Deco M5 Unit 2 ----Ethernet Cable----> PC

Speed When I re-engaged the Ethernet Cable 2: 500mbps
Speed when ethernet backhaul fails: 100mbps

Anyone else having the same issue?

Can we please have the firmware version and hardware version of your deco router? This will help us determine if there is a official or beta firmware that might already address this issue. You can find your firmware version in the deco by opening the TP-Link Deco app, tap More in the bottom right corner, then tap System, and finally select Update Deco to view your current firmware version.

You can find the hardware version on the bottom of your deco.

When you notice the drop in speed are you looking at the deco app in the Everything looks good section? Please note the speeds you see on the main page or dashboard of your Deco app represent the current real-time throughput of your main Deco. This shows how much data is actively passing through your main Deco at that exact moment, not the maximum speed your ISP provides.

So there isn't an issue with how you set up your back haul from what I can see. Have you tried connecting the current cable to different ports on the deco?

Have you tried replacing Ethernet Cable #2? It could be a bad Ethernet cable(s). Here is a great example of how a bad cable can cause problems https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/838210?replyId=1598872

More troubleshooting options can be find in the post below in the "Recommended Troubleshooting" section at the bottom.

Firmware Version: 1.7.8 Build 20240719 Release. 70981
Hardware: Deco M5V3

There seems to be no problem in the "Everything looks good." section.

I am not sure though if it is a bad cable. Everytime there is a drop of speed, I check the Deco app if it shows the Ethernet Backhaul icon and it does, so I am assuming that Deco is still recognizing the ethernet cable. Once I disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable, the speed goes back to normal.

I will try switching the ports and will check within the next few days if there's any improvements.

I have a ethernet port in my wall where I can only get 100 down from so while the rest i get 500 down  it's ether the cable itself or when they installed the RJ45 jacks they did it wrong so if switching ports doesn't fix the issue definitely try swaping the cable

IF neither work then we will go from there

I think they installed a CAT 5 cable in your wall that's why it's only giving you 100mbs max.
