Hoping someone can please help me. I have just bought the Deco P9 system and want to use it in Access Point mode (I can't use it to replace my TP link router because there aren't enough ethernet ports for my devices).

 

I have been unable to set it up. I followed https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1842/ and I got one unit plugged in and changed the operating mode to "access point mode", but it doesn't want to do anything after that. I can't update the firmware it just keeps saying it can't connect. Solid white light on top of the unit. The app can't decide if it's connected or not, it changes constantly.

 

I plugged in a second unit and the app cannot find it at all, and internet is not being passed through it by powerline. It has the pulsing blue light on on top and it the app can't find the second unit when scanning for it. Location mode is on with permission granted

 

I can't update firmware, it says failed to connect whenever I try in the app.

 

I restarted everything (rebooting the units) and tried to connect as a router just in case and that didn't work either. It never connected to internet when modem was plugged into it, and the second unit can't connect still.

 

Any thoughts please?

Router is Archer AXE75 and that's connected to the WAN modem, and the P9 by ethernet

I have Wifi on the Archer Router turned off, by the way.

 

When connected to the P9 wifi (with the one unit) I can use internet on my phone, but the app keeps on saying the deco unit is not attached. It won't let me change any settings, giving errors every time and prompting me to reconnect. I am sat next to the device, with white light on it, connected to its wifi, but the app (mostly) will not recognise that it's there. Sometimes it shows as connected for a second.

I would try the following.

 

  1. Reset all your deco units by pressing the button on the button of each deco for 1 to 3 seconds, 
  2. Unplug your current archer from power
  3. Connect one deco to your modem and try the set up process again BUT do not put it in AP mode yet
  4. If you get the first deco conneced to the app and internet then add the remaining decos again do not put anything in AP mode yet
  5. Once all the decos are working an updated then but them in access point mode and disconnect the deco from the modem and now reconnect your archer

 

I also found this chart which shows what the deco led colors mean.

Thanks, no luck.

 

Archer turned off, reset the Deco units with reset button, removed them from app to start again. Connected as router, connected one to internet (took about 30 mins, just would not connect to WiFi on phone over and over) and still same problem: I cannot connect the second or third unit to the network, app just says it can't find them 

 

TP link support has just sent a useless AI generated nonsense response by email :(

When you reset the deco units what color were the leds flashing? Are you getting any errors messages in the app? Also make sure you have your decos hooked up using one of the examples shown below

After triggering the reset, the lights flash yellow at first and then yellow then pulsing blue, as expected.

 

I get errors in the app constantly throughout every step, even just connecting the first one keeps on saying it's not connected when it is

 

Unable to configure Wifi settings (when first creating the wifi)

 

We couldn't connect to your Deco (when trying to add second and third unit)

 

Unable to connect to Deco. Make sure that the main Deco works well. Reconnect.  (just keeps going to this in the dashboard even when it's connected, and is even serving my phone wifi internet fine. The app just can't seem to see it

 

Also errors I can't remember the wording of like when it couldn't connect to update firmware, can't connect to internet (even though it did eventually with no settings changed)

 

Just has been a constant battle to do anything!! I've been at it for hours

I have not directly connected the other Deco units to each other by ethernet, but they are powerline adapters so should connect to each other by powerline and wifi. I have tried both using the Deco as router connected to modem and also as access point to a separate router connected to modem. 1. Internet modem > Deco > Other Decos (except I never managed to connect the others) 2. Internet modem > router > Deco > Other Decos (except I never managed to connect the others)
