Model: Deco X68
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 20240723 Rel. 43655

I have two X68 routers and they have been working well. In past few months, I found the satellite router randomly lost speed - I am on a NBN 100 plan the speed drops to 3-4 m/s. I had to switch it off and then turn it on and the router starts working. But the issue happens again after a few days. I have been keeping the firmware up to date. Anyone has the same issue. Anything I can do to fix it?

I’ve seen similar reports with the X68. A few things you could try that often help with random speed drops: Reboot schedule - Set an automatic reboot for the satellite Deco once every few days in the app, this can clear memory leaks that build up over time. Swap main and satellite - Try switching roles between the two X68 units. If the problem follows the same unit, it may be a hardware issue. Ethernet backhaul - If possible, connect the satellite Deco to the main unit with a cable. This usually makes the connection much more stable. Channel optimization - Run the Wi-Fi optimization in the Deco app, or manually test if changing the 5GHz channel reduces interference. Factory reset - As a last step, reset the satellite Deco and re-add it to the mesh. Sometimes leftover settings from older firmware cause issues

@Hayata i have a similar issue with my main deco x68. I had my nbn upgraded at the start of the year to 1000/50  it was working great until about 2 months ago. Now suddenly the 5ghz network goes from 850mbs to 11mbs. I had a reboot schedule set for every night, but it keeps crashing. Yesterday I had to reboot the network 8 times. Once I reboot speed goes back to normal. I have 4 x68 in my network, I have changed my main router twice but always the same problem, with main deco. I only have about 15 wifi devices on my network but they all run on the 2.4ghz network. Another 8 devices are hardware and the speed never drops for these devices. What is weird is the upload speed normal stays the same around 50 and now 100 since the speed boost. I have tried eliminating all my devices from the network, 1 at a time to see if something was causing the speed drop or interference.  All my devices have been on the network for a fair amount of time and never had an issue until now. By process of elimination at the moment, I think it is the soundbars connection to the subwoofer maybe causing the issue but that's all I have at the moment but that's a bit of a long shot. I testing with soundbar and subwoofer switch off atm to see if speed drops.

@X68Decouser thanks for your sharing. Please let me know how you go. The upload speed stays normal for me also but I didnt experience multiple speed drops in a day. I switched off the satellite router at the moment. I was trying to buy a new one but it didnt seem they are now on market, probably TP-Link stops producing them.

Here are some steps to help improve the speed and stability of your Deco satellite unit:

1. Placement of Deco Units:
Make sure both your main Deco and satellite units are placed in open areas, not inside cabinets or corners. Proper placement helps ensure a strong connection between the units.

2. Check Backhaul Signal Strength:
In the Deco app, check the backhaul signal level of your satellite unit. Ideally, you should see 2 or 3 bars of signal. If the signal is weak, try moving the satellite closer to the main Deco to improve speed and reliability.

3. ECO Mode:
Go to the Deco app, tap MORE > ECO Mode (if available), and make sure ECO Mode is disabled. ECO Mode can sometimes reduce performance to save energy.

4. Consider Tri-band or Quad-band Models:
If you need consistently high speeds from your satellite unit, consider upgrading to a tri-band or quad-band Deco model. These models offer dedicated backhaul channels, which can significantly boost satellite performance. You can view all Deco models here: https://www.tp-link.com/deco-mesh-wifi/product-family/.

5. Ethernet Backhaul:
For the best possible speed, connect your satellite unit to the main Deco using an Ethernet cable. This ensures the satellite receives the same speed as the main unit. More details on Ethernet Backhaul can be found here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/98898

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, please let us know.
