Model: Deco PX50

I need four decos, the last 3 of which are powerline (PX50). So I need another model as the main deco, so what is the best device for this use, after which there will be 3 px50? So the order will be: fiber to ethernet bridge---> main deco model X---ethernet--->PX50---plc/wifi--->PX50---PLC/wifi--->PX50.

Hello, thank you for sharing your setup details. To help us recommend the best main Deco unit to pair with your three PX50 powerline nodes, could you please provide the following information?

1. What is your broadband speed (in Mbps or Gbps)?
2. What is the size of your house (in square feet or meters) and how many levels/floors does it have?
3. Approximately how many wireless devices will be connected to your network?

The following information is optional and not required, but can help us make a more precise recommendation if provided:
1. How would you describe your Internet usage? (For example: basic web browsing, streaming HD/4K videos, online gaming, video conferencing, or connecting many smart home devices)
2. Do you require outdoor Wi-Fi coverage?
3. Are there any specific features you need, such as VPN support, advanced parental controls, etc.?

To help us assist you more efficiently, please try to provide as much information as possible in a single message.

Thanks for the reply

1. 1Gbs
2. 150m2 one floor + outdoor areas
3. a few dozen

Internet use web browsing, 4k streaming, hd music streaming, online gaming, internet calls and video calls, smart home devices, iptv (maybe it can be used with an ips device if one port can be configured for iptv and the other as a bridge if necessary, I don't know for sure yet. I hope i can put it in bridge mode at all. (Genexis f530)

I need wifi outside both the front and back of the house because 5g/4g is in the shadows. calls and smartphones rely on wifi. in addition, i'm trying to connect to the cottage outside (about 100m away) with G.hn technology (i can connect the PX50 on the house side directly to the cottage's electrical supply cable before it goes underground) and possibly try wifi backhaul to the garage because it's close to the house.

I thought i'd put wifi stations in the outer corners of the house so they also work outside, so that two of them are px50 and two are something else, and one px50 to the cottage.

The house is on a hill and the other buildings are a little lower (2-3m). Do you think a good place for wifi stations is up on the roof line or lower if you are thinking about connection performance to the outside?

On the other hand, next to the fiber modem on the outside wall of the living room, there would be a good place for an outdoor deco, which would take care of the living room and two bedrooms and wifi backhaul to the garage, but then it would be the main deco and the router, after which there would be the rest of the devices, and I understand that outdoor models are not intended as the main router and in the event of a failure the whole system would crash or snow and ice can affect wireless performance.

parental control yes, vpn yes

New possible setup with five mesh stations (don't know if it's its designed correctly)

Fibermodem (bridge mode) --->
main router (model X)----->
unmng.switch ----> ethernet---> IPTV

            switch ----> other LAN

            switch ----- ethernet ---> deco model X

            switch ----- ethernet ---> PX50 ---wifi/plc---> PX50 ---plc---> PX50

Thank you for providing detailed information about your requirements. After reviewing your needs—expanding your existing network with a main Deco unit compatible with PX50, supporting 1Gbps fiber broadband, ensuring reliable outdoor Wi-Fi coverage (including a distant cottage and garage), handling IPTV/bridge mode, and offering advanced performance for multiple devices—I regret to inform you that we do not currently have a Deco model that fully satisfies all your requirements, particularly the need for both Powerline (G.hn/PLC) backhaul compatibility with PX50 and certified outdoor usage in a single Deco model.

As a workaround, I can suggest two options:
• Deco X50-Outdoor: Designed for outdoor Wi-Fi coverage and can be used as a satellite with your existing PX50 system. However, it does not support Powerline (PLC/G.hn) backhaul, so it will rely on wired Ethernet or wireless backhaul only.
• Deco BE65-Outdoor: This is a higher-performance outdoor Deco model, also suitable for extending Wi-Fi to outdoor areas. Like the X50-Outdoor, it does not support Powerline backhaul and will require Ethernet or wireless backhaul.

Both models support IPTV/VLAN/VPN and partenal controls and could work as part of a mesh with your current Deco units, but please note that Powerline backhaul (as used by PX50) is not supported by any outdoor Deco model at this time. For your distant cottage, a dedicated point-to-point wireless bridge or Ethernet cable may be needed, as Deco mesh performance over 100m wirelessly is not guaranteed.

For more precise solutions and to discuss possible hybrid setups, we recommend contacting TP-Link support directly.
