Why Archer AX53 LAN & Local WiFi so slow? (Tp-Link firmware bug?)
Hi! I’ve been troubleshooting Local Network Transfer issue with my TP-Link Archer AX53 (router details at the bottom).
This routers Local Network (wired and wireless) is very slow. When testing speed between devices wired directly (NO router, NIC-2-NIC), devices easily achieve 1Gbps (125MB/s) speed. But when connected to routers LAN ports, speed is capped below 280Mbps (35MB/s) and Wireless speed is capped below 60Mbps (7.5MB/s) for a single stream.
Is this a router firmware bug? Is there a way to fix this problem, so I get a better speed over LAN and also WiFi?
Speed Tests:
- NIC-2-NIC (Two laptops directly connected by Ethernet (NO Router). SMB File sharing speed: Avg Speed: 840 Mbps (105 MB/s)
- Two PC connected to the router's LAN port with 1 meter Ethernet cables, both PC shows link rate 1000/1000 (Mbps). Speed result during (SMB) file sharing: ~280 Mbps (35 MB/s).
- One PC connected to the router's LAN port and another PC is 2 feet away from the router, connected to 5 Ghz WiFi. Speed result during file sharing: ~170 Mbps (21.2 MB/s)
- Two PC are 2 feet away from the router connected to 5 Ghz WiFi, both PC shows link rate 1441/865 (Mbps). Speed result during file sharing: ~108 Mbps (13.5 MB/s)
- iPerf3 test results between an Android Phone (433 Mbps) and a Windows PC (1200 Mbps) connected to the routers 5 Ghz WiFi:
Speed for 1 Stream: ~60 Mbps (7.5 MB/s)
Speed for 2 Streams: ~82 Mbps (10.2 MB/s)
Speed for 4 Streams: ~124 Mbps (15.5 MB/s)
Speed for 8 Streams: ~142 Mbps (17.7 MB/s)
Speed for 100 Streams: Average from multiple test shows 154 Mbps (19.2 MB/s). But some tests goes through very inconsistent speeds, for example: 730 Mbps → 314 → 15.7 → 298 → 14.6 → 195 → 50.3 → 264 → 91.2 → 140 Mbps.
I've also tested Tp-Link Archer C6 V3.20 router and it performed similarly. Is there a know bug on Tp-Link routers for Local Network/LAN?
----------------------------
- Model: TP-Link Archer AX53
- Firmware: 1.4.4 Build 20250603 rel.74380(5553)
- LAN/Wi-Fi devices are on the same subnet (192.168.0.x)
- Ethernet Status displays ports are 1000 Mbps Full Duplex.
- QoS, Parental Controls, Access Control, and Smart Connect are disabled.
- Tested with and without: SPI Firewall, ALG, UPnP, NAT, WMM, OFDMA.
- All confirmed to be on the 5 GHz band, same SSID and subnet.
- AP Isolation and Device Isolation are disabled.
- These tests were done over local network, NOT the internet.
- Tests were done with both factory setting and manual settings, WAN plugged/unplugged-enabled/disabled.
