Native OSPF Configuration Support for Omada Gateways (ER8411 & others) via Controller GUI
Description:
As a network administrator managing complex multi-vendor environments, I am currently migrating from legacy firewall solutions (Sophos/Cisco) to an Omada-based infrastructure featuring the ER8411 and the OC200/Software Controller.
While the ER8411 hardware natively supports OSPF in standalone mode, this functionality is currently not available within the Omada SDN Controller's graphical user interface.
Use Case:
In modern enterprise networks, dynamic routing is essential for:
-
Parallel Operation: Maintaining connectivity between new Omada-managed networks and legacy infrastructure (Sophos/OPNsense) during migration.
-
Redundancy: Automatically advertising routes to internal transit networks (RTN) and handling gateway failovers dynamically.
-
Scalability: Avoiding the overhead of maintaining dozens of static routes across multiple routers and firewalls.
Requested Functionality:
Please integrate an OSPF configuration menu under Settings -> Wired Networks -> Routing for Omada Gateways with the following options:
-
Global Settings: Enable/Disable OSPF, Router ID, Reference Cost, and Default Route Advertisement.
-
Area Management: Ability to define OSPF Areas (Dotted Decimal and Integer format).
-
Interface Settings: Assign OSPF to specific VLAN interfaces with support for Authentication (MD5/Plain), Cost, and Network Type (Broadcast/P2P).
-
Passive Interfaces: Toggle to prevent OSPF Hello packets on client-facing VLANs while still advertising the prefix.
Closing Note: The ER8411 is a powerful enterprise-grade gateway. Adding native OSPF support to the Omada SDN Controller would significantly enhance its viability for professional and high-availability network deployments.
