Description / Current Behavior:

Currently, only a few select configuration windows in the Omada Controller include a brief "Description" field. In most cases, these description boxes have very strict character limits. As a result, it is virtually impossible to document why a specific setting, firewall rule, VLAN, or profile was configured a certain way, or to leave crucial context for other administrators (or our future selves).

Network environments change, and without a dedicated space for comments, it is easy to forget the original intent behind a specific configuration over time.

Requested Features:

1. Universal "Notes / Comments" Field

  • Implement a dedicated "Notes" or "Internal Description" text box for every single setting page and configuration item (e.g., specific Port configurations, DHCP reservations, Routing rules, VPN profiles, Wireless networks, etc.).

  • Unlike the basic "Description" field, this should support a larger character limit (or be a rich-text box) to allow for detailed explanations.

2. Hover-to-Read Context

  • Any setting that contains a saved note should display a small indicator icon (e.g., a note or info icon 📝) in the main dashboard view.

  • Hovering the mouse over this icon should reveal the saved note in a tooltip, allowing administrators to quickly read the context without needing to open the full edit menu.

Value / Benefits:

  • Built-in Network Documentation: Keeps configuration logic directly inside the Omada Controller, eliminating the need to maintain external, easily-outdated documentation files (like Excel sheets or text files).

  • Better Team Collaboration: If multiple administrators manage the same network, they can easily leave notes explaining the reasoning behind specific tweaks, reducing the risk of accidental rollbacks or misconfigurations.

  • Easier Troubleshooting: When troubleshooting an issue months down the road, having a detailed note explaining why a rule was created helps determine if it can be safely modified or deleted.
