The TP-Link RE605X can extend your cell phone hotspot, but it requires a specific setup process. Because most phone hotspots lack a WPS button, you cannot use the standard plug-and-pair method. Instead, you will need to manually connect the extender to the hotspot using the TP-Link Tether app.
Follow these steps to configure your RE605X:
- Initial Setup: Plug the RE605X into a wall outlet near your phone and power it on.
- Connect to the Extender: Open your phone's Wi-Fi settings and connect to the default network (usually named TP-Link_Extender).
- Run the Tether App: Download and open the TP-Link Tether App on your phone.
- Link to Hotspot: Follow the on-screen prompts to select your phone's hotspot as the host network and enter your hotspot’s Wi-Fi password.
Important Considerations:
- Compatibility Challenges: Some mobile hotspots use features that block or complicate range extenders, such as MAC randomization or hidden SSIDs.
- Data and Carriers: Be mindful of your mobile data plan, as extending a hotspot allows more devices to connect quickly, which can drain your data and battery much faster.
- Placement: Make sure to plug the RE605X in an area where it still receives a strong signal from your phone, rather than at the absolute edge of your coverage.
