Configuring the device for AP mode or Multi-SSID mode, I'm not seeing the 'Max Tx Rate' drop down menu option. Is this version specific, how can it be enabled?

Check your 801ND firmware version and hardware version. Then upgrade to the latest firmware version. http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-WA801ND_V3.html (It is for V3);

Note 'Max Tx Rate' appears in the Wireless Setting Help but not on the main screen?

I am sorry that there are not 'Max Tx Rate' in the latest firmware. I think it would be the max.
