Archer C9 doesn't connect to Plusnet

Or Plusnet isn't letting it connect. I get internet capability but then a Service Information page instead of a web address I've entered. All the settings are correct as far as I can tell. I've spent hours since Friday trying to do this with no result. Background: Plusnet supplied me with a Technicolor router which, being single band, can no longer cope with the population of wifi enabled devices in the house. When I contacted them, I saw they were offering (free to new users but £99.00 to anyone else) the Hub One. I checked out reviews and found this, like the Technicolor, wasn't highly rated and eventually went for the Archer. Plusnet said if I got my own router they wouldn't be able to help me set it up but I didn't really see this as a problem because I've done it before for myself and other people (not an expert, just ok at finding and using information). Now, I'm beginning to see that less as advice and more as a threat! The router is connected to a BTopenreach modem by the same cable as was the Technicolor; everything fires up perfectly with blue lights where there should be blue lights, but then comes the SI page block. I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who's experienced this and got round it because otherwise I'm going to have a C9 for sale and a Hub One in my loft!

Hi Strayfish,
I have an ADSL (not fiber or ADSL2 etc) connected to Plusnet . I have no connection problems with Archer VR900 and can supply settings used. Have you tried TP-Link support at support.uk@tp-link.com , assuming you are in UK.
(re private message to Strayfish:- System will not allow me to reply for some reason, hence this entry!)

Re:Archer C9 doesn't connect to Plusnet

I'm with Plusnet and have FTTC, so Plusnet gave me OpenReach VDSL modem and the Technicolor router. I too decided to upgrade to better WiFi router and bought TP-Link Archer C3200 and similarly struggling to connect to Plusnet. Mine shows orange light for Internet connectivity. I've seen the PPP traffic through the log files and all comms seems ok. Then as a test I submitted the wrong broadband password and yet the PPP traffic looks identical. So I don't think Plusnet are handling the CHAP challenge/respose properly.
I saw the latest firmware for C3200 has a fix for Plusnet, but then found I was already running that same version.
Have also tried the Clone MAC Address option, to set the MAC Address of my C3200 to be the same as the MAC address of the Technicolor router, but still no joy.
I will post progress here.

I gave up, I've got a Hub One now and a redundant Archer. I'll be interested to see your progress though as I'm not getting a huge improvement in wifi.

Hi JBM, I wasn't notified about this reply either, or the next, but thanks for trying! Yes I'm in the UK but I hadn't tried the support link you give so I'll give that a go in case I decide to try again.

My router is fixed!
TP-LINK released a firmware upgrade, which includes a fix for PPPoE connections to Plusnet. It's quite misleading that the firmware website ( http://uk.tp-link.com/download/Archer-C3200.html#Firmware) doesn't show the firmware versions as shown in the router's admin GUI. I upgraded my firmware and when I saw my version number hadn't changed in the admin GUI for the router, I just assumed I was already running the latest version. So I went on struggling to change all sorts of settings to get the router working. In the end, I did another firmware upgrade (with the same file I'd used previously) and this time it worked and now reports a newer version of firmware. After a couple more attempts to connect (you have to be patient and leave it for a few minutes) it worked.
The firmware version reported by my router when I first received it was 0.9.1 0.1 v004b.0 Build 160116 Rel.5035n
After a successful upgrade of firmware, it now shows version 0.9.1 0.1 v004b.0 Build 160712 Rel.55313n

When the router was failing, I never received the second CHAP challenge from "JUNOS" and I didn't see any messages for "LCP down". Other forums report that Plusnet tends to hang on to an old connection for up to 8mins, so if you're having difficulty, it may be worth turning all your equipment off, including any FTTC VDSL modem before turning modem on first and when stable green lights, turn on router.
Good luck.

No, sorry I don't and it's not connected now so I can't find out. I tried several times and failed so I had to go with the Hub One.
