Hi.

The 2.4GHz WiFi band on my Archer C50 is suffering from unbearable packet loss. I can't figure out why.

I have changed the WiFi channels, I have changed security settings to see if that helps, I've changed bandwidth settings and ensured they run correctly, I have done 3 factory resets, but still I seem to be receiving anywhere from 30-90% packet loss on the 2.4GHz frequency.

I currently have 90% signal to the router (according to my TP-link wireless card settings) and am still receiving 50% packet loss. I am the only device connected to the 2.4GHz band. It's frustrating because in comparison the 5GHz band runs perfectly well, but I must have the 2.4GHz working for older devices.





Can someone please give me some pointers as to what the issue could be? Could my router be faulty?

I have since discovered a way to stop the packet loss, but at the expense of the 300mbps which the router is supposed to provide.

To stop the packet loss I had to enable FIPS on the end device (my PC) by going to: Network and Sharing Center > Connections: my router > Wireless Properties > Security > Advanced Settings > Enable FIPS for this network.

Instead of running on the 300mbps, I am now getting a maximum of 54mbps. It's not ideal, but at least everything works.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone knows of a way to make the 300mbps connection run correctly.

2.4G band has more interference. You could try to scan the wireless signal around you, check if there are too much interference.

Thanks for replying.

I've used inSSIDer to scan wireless signals around me. As mentioned I'd switched channels (in accordance to what inSSIDer was saying) by trying channels 1,6 and 11. Whichever channel I placed the router on I'd still receive packet loss. I have between 85-90% signal to the router - it's in the room below me - so it's not as if I'm out of range.

Hello,
May I know the model No. of your 2.4GHz network adapter? Maybe it's an compatible issue only with this adapter and C50.
If have another one, please connect it to the 2.4GHz wifi of C50 for a comparison.

@andyyydotcom check that you network cables are not running parallel close to power cable. They should be not closer than 50cm. Also Water pipes near your wifi antenna  amortizes radio transmission too. Good luck. .
