Hi there,

I just got my new AC750 wireless travel router (TL-WR902AC) and want to configure it in client mode for my Qnap NAS.
I started to configure it with my Macbook and had some Problems.

Here is the configuration:

I switched the button on the outside to "AP/ Rng Ext/ Client"
I plugged in the LAN ethernet-cable between the AV750 an my Macbook.
I configured Client Mode, LAN and connected to my WiFi Network (2,4Hz; IP 192.168.2.1/24)
The LAN-address of the AC750 is 192.168.2.101/24 with gateway set to my WiFi Router 192.168.2.1
My MacBook has the IP 192.168.2.100/24 with gateway to 192.168.2.101 (got that over DHCP)
So all is in the same network.

Funny thing is:
If I check the connections with the diagnostics menu on the AC750, I can ping my WiFi Router and even www.google.com on the internet.
Everything seems to work fine, but if I start to ping my network/internet from my Macbook, I can only reach the AC750 with IP 192.168.3.101 but nothing more.
No WiFi Router, no internet. I am aware, that I am using the same network on LAN und WiFi side.
Maybe I am wrong, but I thought in client mode the AC750 should behave like a normal WiFi Stick, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I don't want to configure two 'router like' networks with NAT and so on...
I want my Qnap as a normal, exposed host in my home network.

What is my mistake??

Thanks

Did you get gateway 192.168.2.101 on you MacBook when it's connected to the TL-WR902AC by a cable? When the TL-WR902AC is on Client mode, you laptop should have your wifi router's IP as gateway which is 192.168.2.1 not 192.168.2.101.
Make sure that the TL-WR902AC is working on Client mode, you can check it on its web interface page, you may refer to the FAQ to configure it.

Hi uutommi,

thanks for your answer. I understand... but even if the gateway is wrong, I should be able to ping any IP address within my local network of 192.168.2.* from my Mac.
This is also not possible. I checked 'client mode' on the web interface page, too.
I am afraid, that the TL-WR902AC behaves like a router, so that I have to chose another netmask from the devices which are connected by cable.
If so, the TP-Link Router is useless for me, because I want to build a separate wireless network with an exposed Server. (Honeypot)

Hi el_don,

Did you turn the the DHCP off on the TL-WR902AC, seems the TL-WR902AC is connected to your router, but it still has its own DHCP, and assigns IP address to your Mac. Turn the DHCP off, and make sure your Mac gets your router's IP as the default gateway.
