Hardware: Archer C5400 v2.0
Firmware: 1.2.0 Build 20170630 rel.49653(4A50)
This is a 3 week old router with the latest firmware.
I was shocked that all settings on my new Archer c5400 were erased when I unplugged the router briefly to re arrange few items on the shelf.
I'm setting this router in my parents house and they have no knowledge about computers. I selected this model because of the VPN option.
Now if they have an outage, they will end up with no internet connection if this router get reset to factory default.
Any idea why this happen? I have never experienced this before with any router that I have owned either personally or for work.
How can avoid this? I have a back config file but If the VPN dose not work, then I will not be able to access the router.
Any advice is muc appreciated

I am in San Francisco and have the Archer C5400 v2. Same thing happened and the USA beta version fixed it. Support will be able to fork it over. I purposely tripped my breakers at home and Wireless came back after my Arris Cable Modem synced with my ISP.

I am from India and i have the same problem with my router but only with my date and time settings.
Every time there is a power outage the router date and time resets to factory default and it will not connect to the broadband till the date and time is set right.

Did you update to the latest firmware?
My biggest issue with this device is that it keeps dropping the connection from the ISP. If I connect my laptop directly to the modem, the connection is solid and never drops.
The tplink would connect fine but from time to time it would lose the connection and can't obtain a wan address from the modem for a while. Again, if I connect the laptop directly to the modem, I get an IP address right away so i don't think the issue is with the modem / ISP but with the tplink. Beside that, weak signals, wifi would drop from time to time as well. Spent a lot of money and was hoping for something solid but I'm loosing patience with this device and might end up replacing it

This happens on my C3150v2 as well. Everytime there's a power surge or its accidentally unplugged it goes back to its factory settings

Message to 'gowdac' above.
I too had this issue but found I needed to change the NTP (Network Time Protocol) server settings.
Advanced tab > System Tools > Time Settings
The 'Get automatically from the Internet' would not connect to the default NTP Server settings. When I changed the time manually the router would not keep the date and time at reboot.
I looked up NTP Server IP address on the Internet for my country (UK). Now when I click the Obtain button. Save. Reboot router. it works.
Hope that works for you.
