I read somewhere (sorry, forgot where exactly) that some people had doubts whether the TD-8616 supports PPPoA.

Since many providers in the UK use PPPoA, others had doubts that it would not support PPPoA, because there would be little point in marketing this modem in the UK.

To be sure I have send a question to TP-Link technical support, and to my surprise the answer is: no support for PPPoA.

I want have a modem which is just that: no router/switch/wireless/DHCP, nothing. My TD-WR1043ND will do that!

Is there anyone using the TD-8616 with a provider that uses PPPoA?

Thanks for any feedback!

As far as I am concerned, TD-8616 does not support PPPoA, it seems it only supports the protocol end with E, for example, PPPoE, IPoE...

When i went to Amazon and asked for 8616, they said it was no longer available in UK because it is not suitable for PPPOA connection. It can not be used for my ISP. Most pure modem only supports PPPOE. If any one have got a PPPOA pure, please let me know.Thx

Thanks for the info.

It seems that the TD-8616 is not the one that I need!

I have a CLI reference guide for the Thomson SpeedTouch 500 series. I also must have a ST500 somewhere in my storage.
Unfortunately, the CLI reference seems to be just that: a reference, without much explanation what the commands do. However, there is a section with PPPoA commands, which suggests that PPPoA support may be available.

I will start digging and experimenting, and keep you informed!

I found my ST500 and bummer! It is for ISDN and not POTS, so it will not work anyway.

It seems that the NetGear DM111P and the D-Link DSL-320B could be viable options.
