Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.06 build 20200121 rel.54912(4555)

Hi,

I noticed that the actual upload speeds with my router AX50/AX3000 appear to be slower to what I could get with my RE650 (used separately in AP mode), except for the 9260NGW in AC mode at 80MHz.

Here're the speeds I measured with iperf3 on an HP Elitebook 820G3 laptop running Windows 10 64bits 1909 with 2 different cards at 5GHz (both with the latest intel driver) on the power supply (max peformance parameter).

NB : the laptop was about 3.5m away from the router, without any obstacles

        when the laptop is connected to the AX50 router with a cable I get the following actual speeds : 930Mbps (download), 950Mbps (upload)

Wi-Fi card - connection mode (Router) Download (Mbps) Upload (Mbps)
9260NGW   - AC 80 MHz  (TP-Link RE650)  530 610
AX200NGW - AC 80 MHz  (TP-Link RE650) 650 650
9260NGW   - AC 80 MHz  (TP-Link AX50) 625 590
AX200NGW - AC 80 MHz  (TP-Link AX50)  660 400
AX200NGW - AX 80 MHz  (TP-Link AX50) 680 400
9260NGW   - AC 160 MHz (TP-Link AX50)  730 300*
AX200NGW - AC 160 MHz (TP-Link AX50) 700 250*
AX200NGW - AX 160 MHz (TP-Link AX50) 840 250

(*) in AC 160MHz mode, sometimes the upload results are much lower than this (the transmission speed drops to 0 Mbps...)

What do you think of that ?

Best regards,

Chris

@Chris_FR

Hi Chris,

I notice TP-LINK just released a new FW for this model.

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/archer-ax50/#Firmware

Have you tried this FW? I saw on the note, it says it imporved the WiFi performance.

Hi Matthew,

This is the one I was using during the tests.

Hi,

I upgraded the firmware to v1.0.8 Build 20200426 rel.65338(4555), and there were no improvement; I get the same results...

Best regards, Chris

@Chris_FR

I've been testing different setups throughout the day and came across a few tidbits. In my case, the download speed reaches the maximum only in a / n / ac mixed 160mhz mode *(900mb / s)* and for the maximum upload, I must use the router in AP mode and a / n / ac mode 160mhz. Sometimes between router reboots it gives me the maximum in both, but never in ax wifi 6 mode, only ac 160. Another curiosity is that it only gives me the maximum upload and download speed when the negotiation speed is 866, 7 mb / s on the adapter, when I get 1 ++ gb / s of negotiation speed, my maximum upload speed is 250 mb / s, I hope this data is useful to you

with ax 160mhz it gives me a negotiation speed of 2.4gb / s but a real download speed of only 700mb / s and an upload speed of about 150mb / s, (all this using an ax210 btw)

also check this: I set the RTS Threshold for both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands to 500, and set the beacon interval for both bands to 40

  @Chris_FR Just picked up this router, running in AP mode, network is managed by pfsense 2.6, Intel Atom 2c/4t, 1GB, 60GB SSD, dual Intel Gb NIC, 8 port Gb switch. Firmware V1_200426, Show's 961/865 160MHz connection, Download speed is true but upload is about 1/3 @25-30MB/ps at best. *Laptop with i5-1035G4/Intel AX201

My old ASUS RT-AC68U is tried and true, but was feeling dated with no band seering etc. Upload was about 50-60MBps. I really want to like this router (as an AP) but this is making it hard.

Otherwise great performance ;-)
