Model: RE450
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.0.4 Build 20171220 Rel. 73615

Hi

I have a brand new RE450 wifi range extender.  I have configured it to our Telstra Smart Modem (nbn).

It appears to have issues with mobile phones.

When my family connect to the internet via mobile phone while the RE450 is running, they have no internet connection.

Even when they are NOT connected to the RE450,.

I turn off the RE450 and they get their internet back again.

I turn the RE450 back on and it completely loses the Smart modems 5Ghz signal, i.e no signal.

I go through the quick setup again and it reconnects (sometimes take multiple attempts) with a "strong" signal.

Of course then my family then cant use their mobile phones!

If I turn it off again I get precisely the same problem (even if the extender is only 2 feet from the modem)!!!

Can anyone help with this?

@Lawrence-C

Is this an out-of-the-box solution, to just get the DHCP On and apply these settings? I'm having a similar error after setting the RE450 today and the 5GHz connection dropping like mad but I can only access the DHCP settings for wired connections?

@Lawrence-C Thank you for the reply.

When I use a static IP Address, the RE450 Internet status always comes up as "unknown".  This setting seems to be non-functional.

When I use the Automatic IP address, I get 192.168.0.198, the RE450 seems to like this I.P.   RE450 Internet Status comes up as "Connected".

In either case the result is no internet.

My DHCP setting are curently set to ON.

Note:

The I.P Address range clashes with static I.P Addresses on my network.  I have a whole R.PI Processing Cluster using that range of Addresses.

I can try changing the address lease time.  I haven't tried changing that yet.  The remaining settings are the same as mine.

@Lawrence-C Just how certain are we that the RE450 is compatible with the Telstra Smart Modem Gen2?

It's just a thought, but I suspect that this device (RE450) needs to connect to the Telstra Smart Mode Gen2 via a static IP Address.

Only every attempt to setup a static IP on the RE450 fails.  It comes back Internet status "Unknown" and the Internet is NOT accessible.

Under dynamic IP Addressing we get an Internet Status of "Connected", but it does not actually work either.

Now I know the Telstra Smart Modem Gen2 is a complete pain with Static IP addresses.  It does not like them.

I know this because all of our devices that connect to the Gen2 are using Static IP Addresses and it was not easy to set these up.

To achieve static IP addresses, I've had to setup up mac based Static IP address leasing on the Gen2 or

being I use a lot of Linux based systems, forced the Static IP Addressing under Linux,

using the various Network Managers used by the various versions of Linux I use.

Note:

Setting up a static lease on the Gen2 for the RE450 does NOT work either.  I've tried that senario too.

Setting up a statiic IP address from the RE450 does NOT work either, as I suspect that the Gen2 refuses acceptance.

So is this a Compatibility issue?

P.S.  Currently my Linux equipment is running on Knoppix, Raspbian, Armbian and Hypriot OS
