Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have a dead spot in my house, and looking to buy an Archer AX50 with a RE505X extender, or the Deco M9 (three pack)

I know they are different setups, but wanted to ask general recommendations (or if there are better ones) on which to buy. Around 25 devices in the house using wifi, no need for smart IoT devices, but needs to cover two floors.

The AX seems more useful for the iPhone 11 and iPad Pro (they're the only two devices with WiFi 6), but the Deco for a more wider spread. I have a 200mb fibre line.

Thanks

@B00mer By the design, an extender works several ways. The most common is the extender sends a message on one of the networks say 5GHz and waits for a reply and sends it back on the same network. It connects like any other WIFI device in that is can not send and receive packets at the same time sort of like a CB radio, either you are talking or your are listening. To overcome this. many extenders can transmit on one network such as the 5GHz and receive on the other network in this case the 2.4 GHZ. Better, but you are restricted to the slower speed of the 2.4GHz network. Some extenders now have a backhaul channel. It uses one network and then backhauls on Ethernet, a third channel, or across the electric lines. The system design is to get more coverage. A Mesh system is designed for speed, coverage, and more devices.

I would go with a pure mesh router system over using an extender and router combo. That is what I plan to do when I replace my current router. I also have an extender to cover a dead spot in my house. An extender reduces your speed unless you have a separate backhaul and then you get another WIFI SSID. Although the setup of an extender is not hard, I would think a pure mesh system would be more seamless and less complicated to setup and maintain. At that speed, AX is not needed.

@B00mer it wouldn't have connected via ethernet (too far away) and also the OneMesh didn't connect.

I bought a Deco M9 3-pack and it's been nothing but brilliant since.

Agreed. I tried so many TP-Link combos and from other brands too, but nothing works as smoothly as the Deco M9
