Hi Guys,
I just bought the TL-WDR4300 and the TD-W8970 (i wanted to TD-W8980 but it's not out yet in Australia)
I'm using the TD-W8970 as the connection to the internet.
I'm trying to connect the WDR4300 via WDS to extend the wireless range.
I've followed the following FAQ: http://www.tp-linkru.com/article/?faqid=440
Unfortunately I have not been able to get it working.
I've checked other tutorials online but still no success.
On the WDR4300 status page, the WDS Status displays "Run", however there's no internet connection, both with DHCP on and off.
The WDR4300 is updated with the latest firmware and so is the W8970.
Is this setup possible?
I was hoping the double combination of TP-LINK products will make it easier and compatible to connect.
Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

I removed the password on purpose when taking the screenshot.
You can see that the WDS status is "RUN", so it is connecting.
But it doesn't put you on the same network so you can get internet..

Yes now I can see, but resolution isn't good. What is your DHCP configuration on main router? Maybe it is problem with DNS and gateway.

Please complete DNS in main router, for example 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 click SAVE and Reboot router. After that try to connect.

Unfortunately that didn't work.
I don't get put on the 192.168.1.xxx network. I am only assigned a private network of 169.254.xxx.xxx.
I have to assign myself an IP address before I can connect back to the WDR4300.

Have you entered DNS in main router? My proposition try default configuration on WDR4300 and after that make new configuration.

Yes I've entered the DNS in the main router
I've just done a factory reset and tried to connect again. Still no luck with it.
Do you know if WDS is possible with WDR4300? Could it be a firmware issue?
I have the latest firmware installed V1_121225.

I don't think TL-WDR4300 can WDS to TD-W8970 successfully because of chipset limitation.

I am having a similar issue with my tp link 4300 dual band router and my ADSL modem. I have a huawei echoLife HG520c, but it did not work. I was able to enable de WDS in my dual band router and using survey button I was able to configure te connection to my adsl moden, but it didnt work. So i bought a tp link adsl modem router TD-28961ND but unfortunatelly I was not able to make it work either.
I ennable WDS in my 4300 dual band, use the survey button to connect to my adsl w8961, and configure de 192.168.1.1 on adsl, 192.168.1.2 on my dual band, but it does not work. When I connect to the dual band I can ping my dual band, but not the 192.168.1.1.
I try without authentication and with WEP authentication but neither of this alternativ works.
Seems my tp link dual band router is not compatible with my tp link adsl modem router :(.
Thanks in advance for any help
regards
Pablo
