Model: TL-WA850RE
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi,

I just purchased this extender (TL-WA850RE) since I had kind of lower signal in one of my rooms. After installing everything I encountered 2 issues:

1. you need to give this "network" a new name, so that misses the point because now everytime you go into that room so you need to disconnect and connect to the new network which is irritating when you go in and out of the room a few times a day.

2. This is the serious issue: when testing the original network in the problematic room on https://www.speedtest.net/ - I get around 60 MBPS (Sixty mb) on wi-fi.

When testing the "new" network (extender) via wi-fi in the same room I'm getting 5 MBPS !!! (Five mb)

so basically this extender is 12 times slower than my original network.

Please help me out before I go back to the shop and ask for a refund.....

Thanks in advance !

@dodoc

Good day.

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Sorry for the delay.

As for the Wi-Fi name, you could manually use Tether APP or log into the web interface via http://tplinkrepeater.net; then go to settings>wireless>extended network to change the SSID to be the same as the home router;

As for the speed, may I know how far away from the router to the 850RE?

Have you connected the laptop via Ethernet cable to the 850RE to test the wired speed as well?

If possible, please also check the wireless link speed on the device as well: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/

Thanks a lot.

@Solla-topee

Hello

"Have you connected the laptop via Ethernet cable to the 850RE to test the wired speed as well?" - No, my computer doesn't support a cable (no where to plug in)

the device is about 10-15 meters from the router

When checking the location of the device via the Tether APP it says excellent location.

as mentioned before, when placing the computer at the same spot -> testing home network = 60 MBPS. Testing EXT network = 5 MBPS

Even tested this with another laptop and got the same results.

I tried updating the firmware to the latest, still no change.
