Model: Deco X60
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.5.0 Build 2020101 Rel. 64247

Hello,

I recently bought a 3 pack DECO X60 kit.

After configuration and installation in 3 different rooms, I concluded that one of them works only in 2.4GHz band.

My configuration is simple, all units works as APs and all three are connected over Gigabit Ethernet to a main gigabit router.

I discovered this issue when I made a speed test with a Note 10+ phone, that reports me speeds over 700 Mbps on the other 2 deco X60 units.

I made many tests, the mesh switch to that unit correctly when I am closer to that unit, but the connection is reported to be as 2.4GHz (I use an android WiFi Monitor app to get detailed data about the connection) an the speed is limited at 97-99 Mbps. If I disconnect the power of this X60 unit, the phone connects the other unit in 5GHz band  (reported by the WiFi Monitor app) and the speed increases to 250-300Mbps. When I am closer to the other two units the speed is over 700 Mbps.

Another test was to disable the 2.4GHz band for all units in the Deco App, and when I am closer to the this unit specific unit, the Wi-Fi connection is switched to, but disconnects repeatedly and could not connect anymore at the wi-fi, until I disconnect the power, and the phone connects to the other unit (in other room)

I tried also to remove that unit, reset it and reconfigure and add it in group, but the result is the same.

This strange behavior of this X60 unit was also with initial firmware 1.0.3 and also with the current one 1.0.5

I discussed to our local TP-Link support Hotline, and they suspects a faulty 5Ghz module / antenna inside this Deco X60 unit, and advice me for RMA.

Do you have suggestions?

BR,

Petre

@NPN

wondering if you see 5ghz option on your network list : I just installed mine today and I only see one wireless option - it doesn't say 2.4 or 5 ghz either - both options are turned on in the app, unfortunately tech support is not available . Appreciate your thoughts

The Deco unit exposes the same SSID for both 5GHz and 2.4GHz. If you want to know to what band the client (phone /tablet/ laptop) is connected to, you need use a dedicated app (for instance for Android, you could use WiFi Monitor app and you will find all details about the band your phone is connected to)

@NPN How did you disable the 2.4GHz within the App?

I do not see an option to do this, but then I am also using AP mode and I am using X20, but  with firmware 1.05 and latest android app.

@TheCommunicator

In the Deco android App, using buttons from down side , you can find "More" options.

Then "Router Seetings -> WiFi"

Here you can enable or disable the 2.4GHz or 5.0 GHz, change SSID or password .

@NPN OK. I see those same screens but still do not see any options to choose 2.4GHz or 5GHz unless you can provide more screenshots please.

@NPN Thank you. I guess its kind of obvious. Not sure why I missed it.

Well after more testing with these things this afternoon, I think they are being returned to the store anyway. I was getting better throughput using my original ISP router than anything the Deco X20's were giving me. and I was watching that they were using 5GHz channels using other software.

I think I will try and replace it with a USB Wifi adapter. I am trying to get one specific desktop machine to get higher throughput.

Thanks for your help.
