Model: Archer AX1800
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Background

  • Since the wireless signal from my home router (connected to the ISP) is not reaching specific parts of the house, i decided to buy an AX1800 and connect as a "bridge", by bridge i mean having the AX1800 as a switch without DHCP.
  • To do that, i connected both routers via the normal ports (not WAN), but DHCP still on. The connection was bad, i had some packet loss and the ping got higher!
  • So, i decided to disable DHCP on the AX1800 which allowed better connection on the wired devices.
  • I am not using AP mode (for many reasons).

Problems

  • After turning off DHCP, wired devices connect excellently but wireless devices can't connect at all to the AX1800, why?
  • Which uplink port should be used on the AX1800 to the home router?
  • Should NAT be on/off?

Thank You.

Your are using this scenario. The second one is this one.

Both NAT and DHCP should be OFF (althogh, if you are not using the blue poort - Internet, you can leave NAT as is).

In your scenario the LAN port of AX1800 should be used for connecting to the home router.

Wireless devices should connect fine as well cause wi-fi is just a bridge to the LAN of the device.

I am wondering why wouldn't you give a try to AX1800 in AP mode - second scenario ?
