The deco (M5) will be setup a router.

Yes, it should, as long as switch is compatible. Your best bet is unmanaged switch and from the brand other than DLink.
If by any bad luck your setup does not work, just daisy chain Decos like this:
This should work for sure (the picture is lifted from TP-Link FAQ article), and after confirming that you can trace back to what prevents your setup from working.
