Hello Sir/Madam,

Kindly please refer to the one-page attachment.

It contains the diagram of two (2) Access Points (APs) in a home office environment.

All the relevant info are also on the diagram.  The setup is working fine.

Additional background that may be relevant to my questions which follow:

1 - On a normal working day, 80% of the WiFi usage is in the room where AP-1 is (office for 6 persons).

2 - 20% of the time WiFi usage happens where AP-2 is.  This happens when there is a meeting.

3 - On days where there are no meetings, AP-2 is kept OFF.

4 - AP-1 is always ON except during extended weekends+holidays.

My questions:

(A) Is there any advantage/efficiency gained by assigning AP-1 and AP-2 to the same SSID and password?

(B) Is there any efficiency and/or savings in assigning AP-1 to Channel 1,6, or 11 (but not all)

and AP-2 to a separate channel that is different from the one assigned to AP-1?

(C) Or as an alternative to (B), configure AP-1 to use 2.4 Ghz only and AP-2 to use 5Ghz only (or vice-versa)?

Any tips, recommendations or suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thanking everyone in advance.

(A) No

(B) Yes, that way you could avoid the potential wireless interference between the two APs.

(C) Yes, same advantage as (B), but in that case all the AP2's wireless clients have to support 5GHz band, to be able to connect to the AP.

Keep in mind that the 5GHz band is more susceptive to obstacles and long distances.

You can determine the best scenario when devices are configured accordingly and then test the connectivity.
