Need some help please!

I have two routers, a TP-Link TD-W8968 (main & connected to ADSL) and a TL-WR841N (client) and I'm trying to get WDS working over them in order to use my PS3/media player etc at the tv.

I have followed the following link http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=74
and have the following settings

W8968 (main router)
IP 192.168.1.1
DHCP on

WR841N
IP 192.168.1.200 (out of main router's DHCP range)
DHCP off (default gateway as 192.168.1.1)

In the wireless settings, I have enabled WDS and both routers and did the scan/survey to find the other router to add.
On the W8968 Status page, WDS shows as Enabled
On the WR841N Status page, WDS shows as Run (Associated successfully according to the router's info on the side)

I am able to access each routers page as well as ping from a desktop behind the main router (W8968) but when I am connected to the client router (WR841N), I am unable to get a network IP address. So WDS is working, but DHCP is not being implemented behind the client router?

DHCP is turned off on the client as in the instructions but the main router is not assigning.
I have tried manually assigning an IP behind the client router both inside/out the DHCP range (192.168.1.100-192.168.1.199) with no luck.
Cannot access the internet

My questions are
1) are these 2 pieces of hardware compatible for WDS???
Status of both hardware seems to indicate yes

2) if compatible, what am I missing so devices behind the client router can access the internet connection.

Many many thanks in advance!

Enable WDS on the router TL-WR841N and it is not necessary to enable it on both devices. Here is a link for you and hope it will help you:

Thanks for the quick reply

So I should only need to enabled WDS on the client router WR841N?
I tried this - disabled WDS on both first, then enabled on WR841N, did the scan and saved but same result.
WDS status shows as Run but device behind the client router is still not getting assigned and IP

Any other ideas?

Change the IP address of the client router WR841N in the main router's DHCP range.
Or you may just set up the router WR841N as wireless router with DHCP enabled.:
1) dynamic IP on the WAN connection;
2) change IP of WR841 to 192.168.2.1;
3) Connect the modem 8968 to the WAN port of WR841N.

Tried option 1 - setting the WR841N's IP to be in the main router's DHCP range (192.168.1.150) but no luck.
Device behind client router is still not getting assigned IP address. Setting IP manually (192.168.1.151) with gateway as 192.168.1.150 is not able to pass any traffic

Option 2 doesn't really work for this situation as the 2 routers will be in different rooms - main reason I'm wanting to setup via WDS

Hi jimasek;
I'll try your tutorial after work today but pretty sure I've followed the same steps

Seems there's a reoccurring problem with this model v8.0
http://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?1366-WR841ND-wds-configuration
5 different users in this thread seem to have the same problem where it's not assigning IPs to devices behind the client router

Nah; didn't work.
I had setup a pair of WR741N at my parent's place (1 as main router, other as client router at tv).
Replaced the main router with the WR841N and still worked fine there.
Took the now spare WR741N to act as the client router at my place and connected straight away with no issues...
Seems there's a problem with the WR841N v8.0 acting as the client router as part of a wireless bridge

Thanks for the advice anyway

What do you have in "Status tab" after settings? Sometimes device has problem with DNS addressing.
