Power line light not cming on

Power line light not cming on

Hi,
These were purchased by a friend and have stop working. I have brought them home to try them myself.
The Ethernet light comes on and the power light is on but although I can get the network light (center) to come on momentarily on the unit connected to the modem it soon goes out. I have tried holding the rest button on the bottom of both units; one flashes the other unit flashes for a second and goes out.
On my computer I can't connect/find a default gateway (if that is possible) to view the internal pages.
Please help.
