Region : Singapore

Model : TL-WPA281

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : TL-WPA281_V1_120210

ISP : Starhub

Hi All,

I have newly bought the Galaxy S4.
But it is unable to obtain an IP Address from it.
I have various devices connecting to it with no issues.
Just to name a few(Galaxy Note 2, LG Optimus VU, Apple TV and Playstation 3).
But not all at the same time.

Firstly it is Paired with TL-PA211.
It is connected to a D-Link router(DVG-N5402SP) provided by my ISP(Starhub).
But the weird part is if i were to connect to the D-Link's wifi my S4 has no problem surfing the internet.
I have tried to play around with the settings on the D-Link and TL-WPA281. It has no problems at authenticating the wifi encryption, but it fails at obtaining IP Address.
I have also did a factory restore on my S4.

So i would need help to see how can i make it work.

Many Thanks in advance.

Hi TP-Link. I have the same specs and problem as the person above.
Been trying to tweak but to no avail. Did i miss something out? My other models Samsung devices (S3, Note 10.1, Tab 7.0, SII) can connect with no issues.

Please advise. Thank you.

Hi Hafiz,

you are using the WPA281 with your S4 as well? i did talk to TP-Link regarding this this is what they told me...

((If so,please change the SSID to a new one again and mode to 11n only, turn of the Enable WMM, choose WPA-PSK-WPA2-PSK. Type is WPA2-PSK,Encryption is AES.
Looking for your good news!))

i'm at work so i can't try... maybe you can try it out...

Hello everyone -

I have the same problem - Galaxy S4 connects to the TL-WPA281, says 'Obtaining IP address' but gets no further.

I've attempted those settings changes ... except my 'Enable WMM' button is greyed out (it cannot be disabled).

As the problem was with obtaining an IP address I have tried configuring the S4 to use a static IP address (which works with other devices on my network) but whilst this gets by the 'Obtaining IP address...' problem the S4 cannot access anything on the network or Internet.

I don't have this problem with my Asus Transformer Prime Android tablet.

Something odd the way the S4 is trying to speak to the TL-WPA281, maybe.

Need TP-LINK to advise further on this.

Best wishes,
Dean

Hey guys!

I have the same problem with my S4. I can't connect to my Powerline when I enable any WPS/WPA or WPA-2 security option but it works when I disable security options. But if you still want to connect with your Powerline and have security, just enable MAC-Adress control and enter the MAC-Adresses of your devices. That works.

Hi,

Disabling security and locking to MAC-Address worked for me, I hope that there will be a firmware upgrade to resolve this.

Thanks for the pointers, it was really bugging me.

Seems like at the moment thats the only solution that works, removing the security options.

Ive tried and it works. So what i can do next is to not display my SSID. Hopefully TP-Link and Samsung will be able to work this out.
