Adding QOS clients
Adding QOS clients
I have enabled QoS on my Archer A9 router to match my service provider bandwidth. As I look at the clients to enable QoS on, I am missing my laptop from the list of available devices. I should also state that I enabled QoS on my laptop before but decided to remove it. How can I get the router to show me my laptop once again so that I can choose to enable QoS on it?
I would appreciate any help on this.

Hi. I rebooted the router and even the switch but still cannot see my laptop device. Upgraded all my TP-link devices' firmware as well. Any other suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

That's odd. Deleting the devices's QoS rule should not remove the device from QoS Existing Devices list.
Lets make an experiment:
Try to ping the laptop IP address from the router diagnostic menu and then check if the laptop is visible in QoS Existing Device list.

I tried to ping and traceroute from the router to my laptop and was not successful. However, I can ping the router from my laptop. As fyi, my ISP router is connected to the Archer A9. It is then connected to an TP-Link POE main switch where my OC200 and AC1350 Root AP are connected. An AC1200 AP is in my basement and connects to the AC1350 Root AP via Wifi. My laptop connects to the AC1200 in the basement. Hope this gives you an idea of my setup. Really appreciate the help.

Can you ping your laptop from any other device on your LAN ? That could be the reason for the issue.
That also can be due to a Windows or 3-rd party firewall as well.
Is your laptop receiving it's IP address by the A9 DHCP server, is it visible on the DHCP Clients list in A9 ?
What if you connect the laptop directly to the A9 (wired/wireless), still invisible in the QoS Existing Devices list ?

I was troubleshooting earlier after I sent the post. I can't ping my laptop from my desktop PC but I can ping any network device from my laptop.
Archer A9 is serving DHCP for my network and I can see my laptop from the DHCP list.
Good point on plugging directly to the Archer A9 or connecting via Wifi to see if there is a difference.

I connected directly to the router via wired and wireless and still cannot ping my laptop from the router. It has to be something with my laptop. You're right. I can ping to and from a desktop PC but can only ping out from my laptop. Since this is a company laptop, there must have been something new in the config that was pushed down. We recently switched our AV for McAfee to Cortex. Is it possible for Cortex to drop pings into the client?

You can drop pings even with the integrated Windows firewall.
More important here is, when you were connected to the router direcly, were you be able to see the laptop in the Existing devices list or not.
It's quite possible some corporate AV/FW software causing this behaviour.

I couldn't see the device on the QoS device list either when connected directly to the router but I continued to be able to see it on the DHCP list.
Thanks
