Can't access Storage, FTP or Media servers from laptops

Model : TL-WR1043ND

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : 3.13.4 Build 110429 Rel.36959n

ISP : TalkTalk

I have connected an external USB drive to my TP-LINK router which contains my I-Tunes (over 1200 burned cd's) and I want to access this from my two laptops which are connected wirelessly to the router. So I set it up the external 2TB USB as Storage Sharing, FTP server and as a media server as although at present I only have my iTunes on it I may also wish to put other files on it in the future.

I can call up the router from my laptops but I cannot either edit the file in the FTP server or open the disc in the Storage sharing. Clicking on them nothing happens.

I have i-Tunes programmes loaded onto both laptops but cannot get them to see the file which has all my music on the router via the USB.

I have followed all directions on setting up the media and other servers but I just can't get my remote laptops to access it.

All I want to do is to be able to access the iTunes library and be able to add tunes or take out tunes as necessary from my laptops.

I also have a Sonos wireless music system which has found and successfully connected to the music file on the router using tplinklogin.net\volume1.

I also have an old non-wireless computer set up in my home office that I have my TP-LINK router connected to via cables and this has an iTunes icon which has its connection path as "tplinklogin.net\volume1\iTunes.exe" and this works perfectly well. I can access the iTunes on the external hard drive via the router and I can add and delete tunes.

This is what I want to do from my laptops when in another part of the house. The old PC is coming to the end of its life and the CD and DVD drives I use to transfer my music onto iTunes are starting to fail intermittently which is why I want to be able to do this from my laptops.

Whenever I put in a web address or I.P. address in the iTunes path on my laptops it always says specified target box not valid even though I have tried the one that works on my old (wired to my TP-LINK router) pc and the one the Sonos wireless music system connects to successfully.

Please can you help as the whole reason I got the TP-LINK wireless router was to use this function.

Many thanks

Paul.

Hello,

Your firmware is too old, try at least 3.13.10 but not the last one 3.13.13 (4/28/2013) which is a big shit...

Same problem with V2 Black version
2014-02-13 23:40:01
Hello,

I have the same problem with my new "black" V2 TL-WR1043ND router.
I upgraded with the latest 130925 fw, but nothing changes.

Any idea?
Thank you so much.
