Information for the Arris SB8200:

 

Hardware Version 7
Software Version AB01.02.053.05_051921_193.0A.NSH

 

WAN aggregation, i.e. advanced -> network -> internet -> wan aggregation between an A20 and an Arris SB8200 does not work.

 

1) CAT5E connected between A20 WAN and SB8200 port 1

2) CAT5E connected between A20 LAN1 and SB8200 port 2

3) WAN aggregation enabled on A20 and link aggregation enabled on SB8200 (under advanced menu).

4) Rebooted both devices at least twice in this state.

 

CAT5E testing:

 

1) Is the cable going between WAN and PORT1 good? Yes this is the cable i've been using forever in a normal configuration, able to get 500 - 600mbps download. No packet loss on pings for many minutes.

2) Is the cable going between LAN1 and PORT 2 good? Yes I tested this cable between a laptop and the A20 in non WAN aggregation configuration mode, it came up connected at 1000mbps, pings/internet connectivity all ok.

 

WAN Link aggregation (LACP testing):

 

1) Data activity light on SB8200 PORT 2 never blinks. The Link light is on but the data activity light never blinks like it does for PORT 1.

2) If WAN<->PORT1 connected and LAN1<->PORT2 disconnected everything still works ok.

3) If WAN<->PORT1 disconnected and LAN1<->PORT2 connected A20 loses internet connectivity, globe light goes orange or turns off.

Archer A20 doesn't support WAN link aggregation (Archer A20 specs):

"Static Link Aggregation (LAG) available with 2× LAN ports"

So this nifty slider button i can turn on is just a fun way to have me wait 30 seconds while the router reboots?

I was mislead by the device specifications, sorry about that.

You should have WAN aggregation option indeed - it is described in your A20 user guide - Chapter 4.5.

Now the issue that you may have to set up the WAN aggregation could be a mismatch of the LAGG type.

On many occasions TP-Link states that they support only static link aggregation - check this thread for details.

I don't see any additional setting in A20 regarding LAGG configuration though.

Here's a screenshot from the Arris SB8200 LAGG Setup guide:

It looks similar to A20's web management interface (i.e. no additional settings except enabling LAGG).

If following these instructions LAGG doesn't work I think you won't be able to set it up successfully.
