W9970 as access point
I'm sure this has been done to death, but I'm hitting brick wall here so any help would be appreciated.
I have switched to BT full fibre, so have BT's modem & home hub6. So far so good.
We have an office in an outside building, until now have made do with powerline adaptors to link back to the BT router which mostly work, but are knocked out as soon as we plug in any kind of charger (laptop, phone etc) and it's getting unworkable. I decided to go for a wireless link between the buildings and (to save having to install an Ethernet network around the room) to use my old W9970 router as a wireless access point in the building. Network link is provided by a pair of CPE210 outdoor access points.
Buildings are under 100yds apart & direct line of sight. Good network response when plugging Ethernet into the PoE power supply LAN port on the receiver. So far so good.
I've followed the TP video (set fixed ip, switch off DHCP, use LAN port) many times with the W9970 with no success at all, the old router won't play ball either as WiFi provider or with ethernet plugged in. Everything on my network is on the same 192.168.1.x subnet, including the CPE210's and W9970.
Interestingly, it did work if I left the W9970 on a separate ip range 192.168.0.x and allowed it to allocate ip addresses in that subnet. Problem was, Windows and my wife's MAC couldn't see from one subnet to another to access our file server & printers.
I'm coming to the conclusion that this simply won't work... unless anyone has succeeded?
By the way, if not the 9970, then what AP would do the job in my situation please?

Hi. Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried this and initially thought it was working but after a few seconds I got 'no internet'. The main router is 192.168.1.255 The W9970 is 192.168.1.1 I can see that my computer is connected to the W9970 and has an ip address, also the gateway settings look correct, so I know it has received an ip address from the main router. (did ipconfig/renew to be sure). I am also connected via powerline and the connection details for both powerline (ethernet) and WiFi look the same. Also, the main BT router can see the W9970 as a device on port2 - same port the CPE210 is connected to, so I know traffic is flowing between them. W9970 log just shows... DHCPD Notice Relay DHCP REQUEST form(c0a80101) to remote server(c0a801fe). DHCPD Notice Relay DHCP REPLY to lan(c0a80101).
Did you mean that your main router has IP address 192.168.1.254 ? It can't be 192.168.1.255 (that's a broadcast IP address).
In this case what's your main router's DHCP server pool range ?
In general on these devices LAN ports are bridged with the wi-fi - check this setting to be sure:
That means you should have an Internet acceess both wired or wirelessly connected.
To isolate a DNS issue you could set a static IP address/DNS on your wireless adapter and test if you have an Internet access.

Try the following:
1. Put the W9970 in "DSL Modem Router Mode".
2. Set its LAN IP address to 192.168.1.254
3. Set its DHCP server to "DHCP Relay" with Remote Server Address: 192.168.1.1 (your main router).
4. Disable IPTV, Parental Control, Firewall, IPv6 Firewall, IPv6 Tunnel, Bandwidth Control as you won't need them.
5. Connect the ethernet cable to W9970 LAN 1 port and reboot it.
Then test if you can have Internet access on W9970.

Any luck with your W9970 as an AP efforts ?
To isolate an infrastructure issue you could use an ethernet cable to link the W9970 to your main router directly and test its wired/wireless Internet connectivity.
If it behaves the same way as it did through the PLC/CPE route then probably its reasonable to think about replacing it with device like an Archer C24/54.
They both support a native AP mode (Case 1).
