Hi All

First time poster I just need some info and help. I recently purchased a AX1800 Archer AX23 and want to use this to bascially replace my ISP Sky Router (No Modem)

I understand some basics of the router settings. Basically what i want to do is use my Ax23 for a DHCP Servier and as a Wifi point to take advantage of the one mesh system. I have switched the DHCP and Wifi off the sky router and connected the sky router to the ax23 through the WAN.

However Ithe Ax23 does not connect through it to the internet. I have read the instructions however I must be missing something simple. Also for some reason I cannot connect to my sky router.

Any help would be great.

The reason not having an Internet connection on AX23 is that you've turned off the Sky router's DHCP server.

To use your AX23 as a main router, your Sky router should be in modem only mode.

As far as I know Sky router is a modem/router, which doesn't support modem only mode.

If I am correct in this assumption then you have two options:

1. AX23 in AP mode (Case 1) connected to the Sky modem/router.

2. AX23 in Router mode connected to the Sky modem/router.

In the first case you won't be able to use the OneMesh feature (Q8/A8), but you'll avoid the double NAT in your network.

Also you'll lose some device features in AP mode.

In the second case you'll be able to use the OneMesh feature, but you'll introduce a double NAT in your network.

Thanks for the advice. So there is no way to use the DHCP on the AX23 it has to be on the Sky Router. Not sure why on the Sky router it allows you to disable the DHCP if that is the case.

In the second scenario (when AX23 is in 'Wireless router mode') you're actually using AX23's DHCP server.

In this case the problem is that you most probably can't turn off your Sky hub NAT (here what is NAT).

That will introduce a double NAT in your local network - once from Sky hub and once again from AX23.

This is not necessary a bad thing, but it may be tricky opening ports for gaming or network services on devices connected to AX23.

If Sky hub can't be set in modem mode, I would turn off its wireless radio and configure a DMZ to the AX23 IP address to control opening ports on the AX23 only:
