Archer MR400 IPSec VPN
Hello,
I've just purchased an Archer MR400 (V4) and need to configure it as a VPN Client. The tplink website showed it is capable to do that, however in the configuration I only find OpenVPN and PPTP VPN. So it seems, in the V4 this feature is gone again. Anyone has an idea? Is there a firmware patch or beta firmware I could try to get IPSec going?
It's as bit strange tplink seems to not support IPSec any more in new system versions...
Any help is appreciated, really need to set this up to connect to my home network.
Thanks,
Mirko

I actually installed it remotely without issues.
Unfortunately I discovered a stumbling block when configuring.:(
My MR400 Wan port IP is being given a private 10... address by my ISP and so I think it's not possible to set up an IPSec VPN (to my Unfi Dream Router) without having a visible public IP address. Am I right?

Hi, is your Unfi Dream Router having a visible public IP address? If so, it should still work.

My Unifi site has a non-static internet visible IP and a DDNS record pointing to it. However the Unifo config page for the IPSec appears to require a static IP for the other end of the IPSec pipe. It doesn't even take hostname :(.

I have MR400(EU) ver 4.2 with the latest firmware which has only PPTP. I want to set up either L2TP or Ipsec VPN so that I can connect my Iphone to the MR400. Do I need a special firmware ? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

I just realized that it might not possible for MR400 to be a VPN server as IP address from 4G is a private IP. Any solution? I've never tried openVPN. Does it work for my case?

Hi, PPTP VPN Server or OpenVPN Server will not work if the Internet IP address on the MR400 is a private IP.
For IPSec VPN, it needs to be established between two IPSec VPN routers, called IPSec LAN to LAN VPN, may I know if you would like to establish VPN tunnel between two routers, or client to router?

Hi, then you will need VPN Server function such as PPTP VPN Server or OpenVPN Server, but due to the private IP address assigned by your ISP, they will not work in this case.
If you just would like to manage the MR400 remotely via the iPhone, you could consider to use cloud management via Tether App after binding your MR400 to your TP-Link ID on Tools->TP-Link ID page of the Tether App.

@Sunshine Thanks for your reply. Actually, I want to access a device connected behind the MR400 remotely using VPN. But the problem is wan's IP is a private IP. Anyway, in case I can manage to get a public IP for wan access. Is there a firmware that support Ipsec or L2TP VPN? I have some devices want to remotely connect from my Iphone. Thank you in advance.

Hi, if you manage to get a public IP for WAN access, you could use PPTP VPN Server or OpenVPN Server, which would meet your requirement.
Usually IPSec VPN needs to be established between two IPSec VPN routers, thus it is not suitable for you since you would like to use iPhone as the VPN Client.
