Hi!

Model: TL-WPA7517 KIT V2 EU (AV1000/AC1200)

I am new to this forum and I have also read the thread "Powerline Extender Acting as the DHCP server" and this issue is maybe connected to that thread.

I am a computer nerd running my own DNS and DHCP servers on my home network and been investigating some odd DHCP-things with this Powerline Extender.

1. If I tick the box [Advanced -> Device Settings > LAN Settings > Obtain an IP address automatically (Recommended)] the following happen:

About every 60 seconds it sends a DHCPREQUEST-package even if I have set the lease time to 48 hours.

192.168.###.YYY = DHCP-server IP-address

192.168.###.XXX = WPA7517 IP-address as assigned by the LAN DHCP-server as I have configured it.

Example from the log:

2 INFO 1days, 15:43:03, DHCPC: Send REQUEST to server 192.168.###.YYY

3 INFO 1days, 15:43:03, DHCPC: Recv ACK from server 192.168.###.YYY with ip 192.168.###.XXX lease time 130

Where does the lease time 130 come from? Not from my DHCP-server. Checking the DHCPACK-packages the T1 and T2 are 2 days = 48 hours.

2. If I tick the box [Advanced -> Device Settings > LAN Settings > Use the following IP address] the following happen:

About every 20 seconds it sends a DHCPDISCOVER-package, but that is not in the log. Only the DHCPOFFER-package from the DHCP-server is logged.

Example from the log:

330 INFO 1days, 18:32:48, DHCPC: Recv OFFER from server 192.168.###.YYY with ip 192.168.###.XXX

As the other thread is trying to convey about turning ON and OFF some form of DHCP server, I think there is something strange about the whole DHCP approach here and probably has to be addressed.

I have alot of network equipment on the network, even a TP-LINK RE450, and none of them behave in this strange and odd way concering DHCP.

Nevertheless, it's a good product and it's working just fine! Love it!

Regards!
