Hi,

TP-Link AX 5400 ( Archer AX75 v1.0 )

When using Guest Wireless feature in isolated mode (no guest-guest or guest-LAN allowed) the local (LAN) DNS servers are unavailable.

Need a separate DNS (or DHCP) setting for Guest Wireless clients to use external (public) DNS server.

Or alternately, need a 3rd (tertiary) DNS server option for master DHCP scope so that we can add 2 local (LAN) DNS servers and 1 public (WAN) DNS server to the DHCP scope.

Please add this needed feature. Thank you!

Hello, thanks a lot for the feedback.

May I know if the DNS servers you configured on Advanced->Network->DHCP Server page are public DNS such as Google DNS 8.8.8.8 etc. or a local DNS server within your LAN network?

Since your guest network is isolated with the LAN network, I am afraid the local DNS server within the main LAN network will not be assigned to the guest network client devices, no matter there is another DNS settings for guest network or not.

If it is other public DNS servers, it will work for both main network and guest network client devices.

  @Sunshine

Hi There, thanks for your reply.

I am familiar with how the system and the settings work. This is why I put it in as a feature request.

What I have is two (2) local DNS servers on the LAN for internal and external DNS queries. On the LAN and Wifi I want the DHCP clients to receive both local DNS servers (let's call them 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.20).

However, on the Guest Wireless I don't want the guest clients to access the LAN, hence they cannot access the local DNS servers (192.168.1.x) pulled from the single DHCP scope that is used for all clients (LAN and Guest).

The workaround that I have in place now is to use 1 local DNS server and 1 external DNS server in the DHCP Scope (192.168.1.10, 8.8.8.8) however this is not ideal because the LAN clients then have only 1 local DNS server available in case of server maintenance.

There are 2 simple ways to solve this with a new feature to the AX5400 platform:

1) Add a 3rd DNS server to the DHCP Scope options... therefore I can use (192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.20, 8.8.8.8) which covers all clients on the LAN and Guest.

2) Add an option for a different DHCP Scope for Guest Wireless only... therefore I can specify different DNS servers for the Guests, which is preferable because it doesn't reveal any of my internal server IP addresses.
