Viewing users does not work when I am away from home. I can't see who is currently connected to the router. the application reports "login failed".

Hello, when you are at home, please disconnect the Wi-Fi on your phone, use your phone mobile data to login the Tether App to see if you will be able to manage the router remotely. If it doesn't work, please make sure the router internet works fine and also try to restart the router to see if it solves the problem.
