I am currently using the VR2800 for my FTTC Braodband ( from Plusnet) Now planning on moving to FTTP. Am looking at getting the fastest speed currently available ( 900Mb), so is the VR2800 capable of processing these speeds, or do I need to get a new router?

VR2800 is a xDSL modem router - it has RG-11 port (POTS) as WAN port.
It can also work as Wireless router using its LAN4 port (RG-45 ethernet cable) as WAN port.
If an optical port is needed for the new FTTP service, it won't do the job.
Apart from that it's a gigabit modem router which should handle 900 mbps bandwidth in wireless router mode.
It's best to contact the ISP and explain what make/model is your router - they'll tell you if it's suitable for the job or not.

@terziyski Thank you so much for this.
I had already done some googling before coming on here and had managed to establish that my router model number is being used by people with PlusNet FTTP and I have even managed to get the settings needed for it to work.
However when googling, I also saw something which said that routers also needed to be capable of dealing with the Speed supplied from the ISP and that is the bit that I didn't understand to be honest because none of the other posts stated what speed of FTTP they were getting ( and I don't understand how it all works anyway) - and I have gone for the 900Mb option from PlusNet. I currently have FTTC with PlusNet and bought the router because PlusNet's hub was diabolical and the Router has made a huge difference. Rarely drops, if ever, and covers the whole house so I don't want to change to a PlusNet Hub 2 if I don't have to
I don't think it needs an optical port but I will check. The online info, for the PlusNet Hub I will be getting, shows the Ethernet Cable ( which has red ends) connecting to the Lan1 port on the ONT and into the WAN port on the router so I don't think it will?

If you're going to use VR2800 ethernet port as WAN then you should switch its operation mode to "wireless router".
In this scenario its WAN port will be LAN4. If you look at the back of the device, you'll see the label LAN4/WAN on this port.
Also it would be good to upgrade its FW - you are two releases behind - check here. Upgrade procedure is here.

@terziyski thanks for this too. But I'm not sure why you think my Firmware is not up to date - When I do it, it says it IS up to date? What am I missing? I'm not well up on all this stuff!

Build date of your FW is "Build 210313" but the latest release for EU region is with a build date 'Archer VR2800(EU)_V1_220512' - first hyperlink (blue text) from my previous post.
I presume that your device is with EU FW region - you can check that on the device bottom sticker - see how here.

Hmm! Well that is interesting. Mine says it is Archer VR2800(EU) Version 1 on the underneath - once in the Router Settings, under Hardware version it says VR2800 V1 00000000. When I click on upgrade it says the FW is up to date. Any idea what I should do now?
I could download the firmware and manually install, I assume - but as my label doesn't say exactly what those firmware versions are for, wouldn't that maybe cause a problem and leave me with an unusable Modem/Router?

That's exactly what it is - region EU, HW v1 (on the bottom label) - the latest release is "Archer VR2800(EU)_V1_220512".
Build date is 2022-05-12.
Here are the modifications and bug fixes in this release:
1.Newly supported SOS/ROC functions(Only for Australia area).
2.Newly supported HUAWEI E3372h-320 Dongle.
3.Fixed some security vulnerabilities.
4.Updated the built-in ISP profiles.
5.Fixed a NetUSB-protocol vulnerability (fixed in the previous release 2022-01-20)
If you feel uncomfortable to do manual FW upgrade leave it as it is - nothing to worry about.

Just wanted to say that I managed to upgrade the FW manually, as you suggested, without problem and the FTTP was installed yesterday and is working with my Router. So I wanted to thank you again. Very helpful replies from you and the changeover went very smoothly ( and quickly). Much appreciated
