I'm looking to change my supplier provided router for 'the best' Wi-Fi router, for my fttp connection. For compatibility, my provider says it has to have the following; can you let me know which Wi-Fi router would be the best one for me? (No budget constraints)

  • A gigabit ethernet WAN port. A fast ethernet WAN port will work, however, this will limit your speeds to less than 100Mbps.

  • DHCP client on the WAN port. This allows your device to obtain its IP address information.

  • DHCPv6 PD and SLAAC support. These aren't strictly necessary to get online but are needed to get IPv6 working.

Thank you

Lapchien

  @Lapchien

Hi, do you have a separate fiber modem and would like a router only to connect the existing fiber modem via Ethernet cable?

If so, high-end routers now are WiFi 6E or WiFi 7 routers, which usually has Gigabit ports, or even 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps ports.
For example, WiFi 6E router Archer AXE75 supports 1× Gigabit WAN Port and 4× Gigabit LAN Ports, or WiFi 7 Router Archer BE800 has 1× 10 Gbps WAN/LAN port, 1× 10 Gbps SFP+/RJ45 Combo WAN/LAN port and 4× 2.5 Gbps LAN ports.

DHCP client on the WAN port, DHCPv6 PD and SLAAC are also supported.
