Hello @Sunshine

I followed up on your recommendation this weekend, and it did not work.

I configured the static IP and disabled the DHCP server on the extender, and it ignored me, saying IP configuration failed, going back "automatic".

I unplugged the repeater, and everything went back to normal. So now I am going to send it back as a faulty item.

Good news for TP-Link, I got a great deal and went for X50-5G Mesh plus 3x X50 repeaters on sale.

Problem solved!

Thank you nevertheless for your prompt help and suggestions.

Tiago

  @TiagoSS Hello TP-Link forum,
They say "A picture is worth a thousand words", so I sent 3 pictures saving 3.000 words laugh

Last weekend, I started with this problem of not getting an IP address neither on my PC nor my other devices (e.g. mobiles).

I did a factory reset to the router and a network reset to my PC WiFi, and it came alive... and I thought to myself the problem was solved.

This weekend, again, the same problem... so I cannot do the resets, every day. We need a permanent fix to this "bug".

It seems to be something around the Wireless Configuration or the DHCP server not behaving as expected, but you know better than me, what it could be.

Things that are working well, the 4G connection is sound, and curiously when I connect via my TP-Link extender TP-Link TL-WA855RE, which is always on, it works fine.

When I connect to my main WiFi using TL-MR6400, I can get a WiFi connection that says "no internet, secured" on my Windows 11 64-bit PC.

But, I cannot get a valid IP... that is the "router bug".

Can you help me?

Many Thanks,

Tiago

Hi, did you configure any static IP address on other clients or address reservation on the router which might cause any IP conflict?

And when you are not able to obtain valid IP address, will static IP on the client device work fine?

How to configure static IP on the computer

Hello @Sunshine,

I am not using any static IPs on my PC or in any of my mobile devices. They are all configured with "DHCP: Auto".

I did not tried to configure a "static IP" on my PC, since it does not seem a good way going forward.

I just got an idea, may it be a conflict of the same DHCP wireless configuration ranges between the existing TL-MR6400 and the new arrival of the TL-WA855RE?

If so, what is your recommendation to correct it?

Any other potential solution is welcomed here.
Many Thanks,
Tiago

  @TiagoSS

Hi, make sure the DHCP Server is enabled on the MR6400 router, set the DHCP Server on the extender to be off and give the extender a static IP that is in the same subnet as the MR6400, for example, MR6400 LAN IP is 192.168.1.1, set extender IP to be 192.168.1.2.

If any device still cannot obtain IP address, please try connecting it directly to the MR6400 instead of the extender network to see if it works.
