Ethernet speed halved when connected via VR600 v3

Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.6.0 0.9.1 v009e.0 Build 230809 Rel.6944n
I've just upgraded my fibre broadband to a 1 Gbps connection and when I connect the fibre ONT directly to my PC I'm getting very close to the full 1000 Mbps download speeds.
When I connect my VR600 to the ONT in wireless router mode and connect my PC to the VR600 via ethernet my download speeds drop to < 400 Mbps despite both the PC and the VR600 reporting a 1000Mbps link speed.
I've tried replacing all my cables with brand new Cat 8 so the issue seems to be with the VR600's internal WAN - LAN throughput.
