Model: TL-MR6400
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I'm planning to buy the MR6400 router for use with an existing 3 network Data SIM. I live remotely and currently own a Poynting XPOL-1 external Antenna which i would like to reuse. An exteranl antenna is very necessary where i live.

Can anyone advise whether these are compatible. I am concerned that the Antenna is too old and will not give me 4G or optimium strength.  On Amazon there is a bundle being offered of the Poynting XPOL-1 V2 5G 3dBi Omni-Directional Cross Polarised LTE 2x2 MIMO Outdoor Antenna & TP-Link TL-MR6400 300 Mbps 4G Mobile Wi-Fi Router, SIM Slot Unlocked. Should i upgrade the Antenna?

Thanks, in anticipation of your advice.

My new router has arrived and plugged in fine. The signal I am getting is no stronger than before but I have yet to move the antenna to be outdoors. I have simply connected the two leads from the antenna and switched it on. I recall that when I plugged in the antenna into my old router a few years ago it required me connecting the router to my computer to adjust the router settings internally. I cannot find any advice on TP documentation with regard to what adjustments might be required and the chat line simply insisted that they do not recommend using externs antenna. I'd be very grateful if someone could clarify the right course of action.
