Deco M5 latency to modem/router spikes
I have this same issue that continues to happen for years and years. Latency fluctuates and have spikes of 120-500ms.The other forum topics with the same title were closed wtihout resolution by TP-Link.
I have a ticket opened with TP-Link in Brazil (TP20241021064460) but I don't have a solution yet.

Hi, Welcome to the community.
"Latency fluctuates and has spikes of 120-500ms"
Does it mainly happen during online gaming?
Is there any chance that you could connect the device via an Ethernet cable to the nearest Deco?
Please also try to disable the "Fast roaming" and "Beaming" under Deco APP>More>Advanced, and connect the device to the 5GHz band Wi-Fi first.
Deco M5 is still WiFi 5. For some live activities, such as online gaming, and 4K video streaming, an Ethernet connection would be the first recommendation and it is also suggested to update to the WiFi 6/6E Deco models for better experience.
Thank you very much and best regards.

Hi David
Thanks for the prompt response. Here is some extra info.
- I am using the Deco on AP mode with beamforming, fast roaming and smart DHCP all deactivated. I also disabled the Mesh. Nothing worked. I will try connecting exclusively to the 5GHz network instead of auto.
- The main Deco M5 is connected to the router by cable but it is installed on the ceiling so I cannot physically connect to it. The main Deco is connected by cable (throught the ceiling) to the secondary Deco, which is on my bedroom. I don't care much about this secondary one latency.
- When I connect by cable directly to the ISP provider modem/router I have a stable 20ms latency, but when I use Deco wifi I have these spikes of very high latency times. The main Deco is on my office, where I work.
I work on a Virtual Machine hosted on Microsoft Azure. The latency spikes have a clear effect on my use, similar as what would happen with gaming. Problem is not speed but these latency spikes/fluctuations. Any further advice? If you have access ot the ticket you can check it for further info.
Thanks,
Daniel
