Dear All,

i have recently bought the above access point in order to provide automatically to our clients free wireless internet access. the company has static IP address configuration for its wired servers & local PC & printers.
So, the local network is on the 10.10.1.xxx
the subnet mask is on the 255.255.255.0
the default gateway & primary DNS is the 10.10.1.239.

So, i set up the LAN of the access point with the following:
Type : static IP
IP address: 10.10.1.241
subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.10.1.239

then the DHCP settings of the access point are set up with the following:
start IP: 10.10.1.100
End IP: 10.10.1.199
Default gateway: 10.10.1.239
Primary DNS: 10.10.1.239

So, when I want to connect wireless with any system (laptop, smartphones, iphones) with automatic configuration on their wireless card i am expecting to:
1) Have an IP in the range of the DHCP server of the access point as above.
2) the Gateway and DNS to be the same as mentioned above in the DHCP settings in order to have internet access.

Though, when i really connect wireless, with different types of systems (laptops, smartphones, iphones etc.) i get the following:
IP: any other IP than the range that has be set to DHCP settings (ex. 10.10.1.20)
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 10.10.1.254
DNS: 10.10.1.10

So, my question is: what is the use of DHCP server of this model since when someones connects to it does not automatically assigns its settings and how i can real set up a wireless access point with automatic configuration to the systems connected to it.

thank you in advance.

Konstantinos

I m going to answer you with a real living example.
this hotel has a ISP gateway 192.168.1.254 and the DHCP pool is 192.168.1.50 to 253, the Administrator of the Network set up 10 APs all of them with the same IP 192.168.1.1 (yes all the same) when I go to that hotel and use there wifi i see in my device Im getting wifi via 192.168. 10.XXX and gateway 192.168.10.1
You could call it CRAZY but as he answers, they send me the APs and they told me what to do, so I followed orders, but the main thing here is that it works 24/7
And for sure who ever set up for first time the network placed a device after ISP that is delivering 192.168.10,1 gateway.
My answer, looks like same scenario.

Dear Fotodamaris,

thank you for your answer though it does not give any help as i am using only 1 AP . As for the connecting process, it must be all automatic and not to provide any instructions to the user. also, it is really strange of how your IP when you are connected is 192.168. 10.xxx and not an IP in the range of the set dhcp pool of xxx.xxx.1.50-253. So, i think this is the same with my problem.

Do you have the DHCP feature ON in your main ADSL router? You must only have one DHCP server ON in your LAN, preferably teh ADSL router and not the tplink AP DHCP. Check your email in the forum.

Hi to all and sorry for my late reply,
The DHCP feature of the main ADSL router is disabled as the whole network has been set with Static IP and the main ADSL router is managed only by the internet provider (ie. i do not have any access to it). That is why i need to set up the DHCP from my AP.
So, why the DHCP does not wok properly or what is the proper way to set up the DHCP to the AP in order to work properly.
lastly, as i am new to this how can i check my email in the forum Aster1x?
thanx
