by giving us wifi classes you missed the question, please answer the question on post #16.
This is not a rule , but WDS does not work 100% with dif vendors, Broadcom Linksys Atheros 941, I don't say it, its all over wikis, including DD-WRT wiki, interesting is if you gave a dif SSID to 941 or the same SSID, in case same, the interesting question would be, are you really connected to 941 or to DD-WRT once you flash the Linksys it becomes a monster in wifi power, and if you gave same SSID, set a dif. one, and that way you will know if its working or not.
From DD-WRT Wiki http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php...router_network
WDS between different chip vendors (atheros, broadcom, ralink) will not work most of the time since it's INCOMPATIBLE and no we will NOT fix it.

I did not see the last part of your question in post #16 because you added it after I started writing my response, so I didn't see it when I was answering.

The system is currently configured with different SSIDs.
Each router running with it's own SSID.

Hi Alex,

I may need some of your helps and experience. In fact I am trying to set my TL-WR941ND up as wifi extender as you did following the link:(via this FAQ: http://www.tp-link.com.de/article/?faqid=440)
I have done exactly everything as the instruction on that link. However when I connected to the extender (TL-941ND) it says "No Internet Access" and I can't ping the root router as well.
The only different between my story and yours is the root router is NetComm NF4V. Do you have any tips that can help?
Any help from anyone would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Hi TDN,
You should check the settings between the root router and the extender.
Try to define a single parameter on both ends, instead of lists of parameters (for example choose either TKIP or AES and not TKIP+AES).
Verify that both routers are defined on the same channel, and the WIFI credentials the extender uses match the root credentials.
In the end, you may have the same problem I did - the routers don't support the WDS the same way. In which case you'll need to either install a 3rd party firmware on one/both of them, or will need to replace one with a different model.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your quick respond, I have tried to work with those settings as your advice and the Extender WR941ND is able to scan out the root router and my PC is able to connect to the Extender but I still got a message "No Internet Access".
Do you have any good link for third party software?

Thanks

Just different names, WDS bridge/repeater/range extender, almost the same technique on current TP-LINK products except the old TL-WA5110G/TL-WA5210G/TL-WA7510N.

The true difference is 3addr and 4addr compatibility. One example is universal repeater mode(3addr) and WDS repeater mode(4 addr) on reapter products.

Universal repeater mode(3addr) is universally compatible with normal routers.
WDS repeater mode(4 addr) requires the front router is 4addr-capable, or call WDS capable. This mode provide transparency on MAC layer.

As to the WDS function on TP-LINK routers, some of them are 3-addr, others are 4-addr. If you try all kinds of method but still fail to wds your front router, one probable reason is that the TP-LINk router implement 4-addr-wds, but your router doesn't support.

I think most of TP-LINK's new routers are using 3-addr to wds the front router, while capable for being wds via 4-addr.

AFAIK DD-WRT is considered the best, unfortunately I didn't see your router in the supported routers list there ( http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database).
So you might want to look for other firmwares.

Thanks Alex, this matter look a bit like IP address conflict problem to me, but I can't figure out how to fix it after trying to set many different IP addresses.

Alex, I have tried your advice to upgrade the firmware to use Gargoyle and it did work. It now able to bridge and extend the signal from the root router. However the connection seems not stable, after short period the Extender seems lost connection with root router again. To recover the interconnection between 2 router I need to reboot the Extender. Do you have any advice on the issue?

That's great! :)

Now this new issue you're experiencing sounds very much like the issue I was having.
So you might want to try a different 3rd party firmware (hopefully it has better compatibility with TP-LINK's WDS)
