Frequent disconnections with TD-W8980 while downloading

Tags:
Region : Greece
Model : TD-W8980
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 0.6.0 1.8 v000e.0 Build 150514 Rel.40138n
ISP : Forthnet
As the title says whenever i am downloading something with close to max speed the internet always drops for few seconds and comes back online.
Logs suggest authentication error of some kind though i can't understand why.
Have tested with another router and there is no such problem. Is is hardware problem? is it settings?
vpi is 8, vci is 35 as per specification. PPPoE with 1492 MTU and authentication is auto though its pap anyway.
Problem is reproducible everytime though if i don't download at max speeds everything is fine.

Just happened again (total freeze needing an off-on, no access to router via ethernet) with 5200 bandwidth limit. Will try now with 5000 (official bandwidth contract) and if it happens again i will try with an external modem and configure the 8980 in router only.

EDIT: during freeze the leds were blinking (like everything ok) and I wasn't downloading at max speed.

@all: have you tried to disable SRA in DSL settings ?
I found that in an other forum:
Bitswap should be enabled and SRA should always be disabled since few Aussie ISPs use it and it will drop line sync over time instead of retraining the connection and can sometimes cause issues.
SRA can be buggy depending on hardware used on the ISP's and customer's ends as well as configuration of said hardware. Many ISPs have experimented with SRA but disable it to eliminate it as a potential issue.
I'm testing now ...

Do not expect that your ISP contractor works on digital. Controllers triggering are sensitive
2015-08-09 14:16:21
The controllers respond to transients. The router in question follows the response without any limiting hence the temp disconnect. If the download is a torrent download, then torrent software has capability to restrict downloads. Remember torrent download restriction can be on the total as well as the thread. So factor in that simultaneous downloads could suddenY add up.

I use bandwidth limitation with my torrent client (tixati) and I was downloading slowly.
Since yesterday at night I turn off UPNP (as seen as a recomandation on a lot of routeurs in these forums) and for now ... no freeze ... Let's wait a bit ....
My old DLINK DIR615 from 2009 was able to stay ON for months without any crash, with a ddrt firmware.

Just freezed with UPNP off ....
Now testing with an external ZTE modem
Now I can say the guilty for "over" heating is the modem chip.

Im getting the exact same issue. I have tried everything over the last few months, switching off upnp etc too. I was beginning to think it was my ISP Zen. It happens when im downloading big files or trying to play certain games. GTA V for example is too much for this router when online
