Hi everyone,

I bought a TP-Link TL-WR941ND (450 Mbps N Router) about a week ago and it works fine, but is a bit slow in the back room where I have my office set up (the joys of needing streaming video in multiple rooms).
I bought a range extender, the AC750 model RE200, yesterday and set it up in the hallway between the room with the router and the office computer.
It makes the connection but the speed is down to almost nothing. The Status page for the extender is showing a 56% Signal Strength with the 2.4 GHz router. I set the channel manually to 13 and there are no other networks in the area on that channel. I don't know what else I can try. My computer doesn't appear to be able to read a 5 GHz signal.

I ran a speed test. When connecting directly to the router I'm getting download speeds of about 32 Mbps and when I use the extender it's capping out at 1.5.

So, any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Is there any difference when the channel bandwidth is set to 20 or 40MHz?

I switched the bandwidth on the router to 40 hz and no difference.

What's the firmware version of WR941 and RE200?
5G/2.4G light on RE200 is red or green? Can you place RE200 closer to WR941 and have a test?

I think you should place the extender in a proper location... It was a little far away from the router maybe...
Move the extender away...but ensure that 5G/2.4G light is green... Test the speed again...
You'd better provides screenshots as they will be more clear than simple description...

Just wanted to chime in that I have this same issue (bandwidth from 18mpbs to 0.16mbps) when I installed a WA860RE.

Ok, here is a rough diagram of the apartment (it's small) with the various locations of interest as well as the screenshots of the speed test results.

Currently the cable modem is located in the living room (cable outlet, top corner). I can't really move it because the landline is attached and that has to stay in the living room. I had the extender plugged into the electrical outlet in the hallway, but that really didn't work (original test results from this thread). Now it's in the electric outlet by the living room door.

Here are the direct connection to the router results:

And here the results when connected to the extender:

the 2.4 light is on, the 5 is off, but since my laptop doesn't support 5 broadcasting at that is a mute point (and the router doesn't broadcast at that either).
