Urgent: Archer AX10 Smart Connect Stuck on 2.4 GHz – Router Behaving Like Single-Band
Dear TP-Link Support Team,
I am writing to report a serious and extremely frustrating Smart Connect / Band Steering issue with my TP-Link router. This problem has reached a point where it completely defeats the purpose of buying a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router.
📌 Router Details
-
Model: TP-Link Archer AX10
-
Hardware Version: v3.0
-
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20250812 rel.75732(5553)
-
Update Method: Online Update (latest firmware already installed)
-
❗ Problem Description (Very Important)
The Smart Connect feature does NOT switch devices back to 5 GHz, even under ideal conditions.
Here is exactly what happens:
-
When I move away from the router, the device correctly switches from 5 GHz → 2.4 GHz (which is expected behavior).
-
However, when I return back into the same room, where:
-
The router and device are only a few feet apart
-
The router is clearly visible
-
Signal strength is excellent
-
👉 The device remains stuck on 2.4 GHz and never switches back to 5 GHz automatically.
This happens every time.
📱 Devices Tested
This issue is not device-specific:
-
Android smartphones
-
Apple (iOS) devices
-
PC using TP-Link T3U Plus (USB adapter)
All devices show the same behavior:
Once they fall back to 2.4 GHz, they never return to 5 GHz unless Wi-Fi is manually turned OFF and ON again.
⚠️ Why This Is a Big Problem
Because of this behavior:
-
The Archer AX10 effectively behaves like a single-band 2.4 GHz router
-
It feels no different from an old Wi-Fi 4 (N-series) router
-
The main advantage of buying a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router is completely lost
-
Manually toggling Wi-Fi every time is extremely frustrating and unacceptable
At this point, I honestly ask:
What was the benefit of purchasing the Archer AX10 if Smart Connect does not work properly?
🔍 Reference to AX23 (Important)
I have researched TP-Link Community discussions and found that Archer AX23 handles band steering much more correctly.
The AX10 has a capable processor, so this appears to be a firmware logic issue, not a hardware limitation.
👉 Request:
Please apply the same band steering / Smart Connect logic used in Archer AX23 to the Archer AX10 via a firmware update.
If the AX23 rules can be reused or adapted, this issue can likely be resolved.
🚨 Urgency
This issue is causing daily inconvenience and frustration.
I am not willing to wait indefinitely while the router remains stuck behaving like a single-band device.
I strongly request your engineering team to:
-
Review this behavior seriously
-
Acknowledge the issue
-
Provide a firmware-level fix as a priority
Looking forward to a clear response and concrete action.
