Hi All,
I have an AC1200 and wish to extend range by replacing one (or more) of the three antenna with a pigtail and directional antenna.
However, I am unsure if each of the three have separate functions and which I should replace in order to gain the desired result.

The objective is to improve signal strength between the router and a range extender located about 60m away - I am also planning to use a similar directional antenna on the extender.

Thanks,
Bernie

Looking inside, it seems that 2 antennas are used for the 5Ghz band chip and the third goes under the metal block to serve the 2.4Ghz chip. https://goo.gl/photos/v4LAzxyyZVG8idgRA

Don't know for now which BCM chip does what wifi version.

Hi Bernie, It is not recommended to replace only one of the three antennas, because the three antennas work cooperatively.
You can buy a wifi repeater to extend the range.
