how do you connect them? A topology may help us to understand the issue here.

do you want to separate users?
if no, you can try this, setup tl-wr840n in access point. after the configuration, connect that cable from 841Hp to the lan port of TL-WR840N.
you just need to reconfigure the 840n: disconnect cable from 841hp first, then change the lan ip address of 840n to 192.168.1.16-hit save. go to dhcp settings to disable dhcp server--save--reboot --connect cable from 841hp to the lan port of 840n.(lan to lan).

You have two LANs where 41HP works as ISP for 840N. The connection type for 840N should be static IP and it should be set to fixed IP of the 41HP LAN let we say 192.168.1.2 and in that Network 41HP the DHCP server should has a pool outside that IP.

Another thing for 41HP network connection, set the DNS for it.

I have similar situiation like yours where I have TD-8810 as an ADSL routers/modem for my ISP and the WiFi is addressed by LinkSys 54g
