Hi - I have been building out a small network using a ER7206, a C2300 as an access point, and a TL-SG108E. I currently have the ER7206 and C2300 setup correctly with a separate VLAN on port 5. 

 

In attempting to stand up a VLAN Trunk (802.1Q) with TL-SG108E I've been hitting some road blocks. I want to use a single cable between the devices (an unfortunate hard requirement) but have VLAN segregation on the TL-SG108E with different IP Subnets.

 

For the configuration I have setup two LAN's, vlan20 and vlan30 with respective PVID's (20,30) on ER7206. Set them both as Tagged to port 4. I also setup two 802.1Q vlans on the TL-SG108E, vlan20 and vlan30 (PVID - 20,30) but no success.  Whatever the PVID is set to on the ER7206 is the subnet I receive for the specified ports downstream on the TL-SG108E. For instance if PVID 20 (vlan20) is specified, I can get an ip address from the LAN on ports 2-5. However, when attempting to get an IP address for vlan30 on Ports 6-8, my machine fails to receive an ip address from the ER7206 DHCP server. 

 

What should I do to correct my configuration? Is it even possible with the components?

  @Virgo  - I found the issue. For future reference, the SG108E has to have the upstream port tagged in both VLAN's. Example:

Be sure to set the PVID's so the packets contain the correct info:

Hi, first, you will need to configure the TL-SG108E switch to support VLAN tagging. This can be done by creating a VLAN ID for each of your VLANs and then tagging the appropriate ports with the VLAN ID. Next, you will need to configure the ER7206 router to support VLAN tagging as well. You will need to create a sub-interface for each VLAN and specify the VLAN ID for each sub-interface.

Once you have both devices configured for VLAN tagging, you can connect them using a single cable. The cable will need to be a trunk cable that supports 802.1Q tagging. You can then configure the trunk port on the TL-SG108E to allow both VLANs to pass through the port.

Finally, you will need to configure your access point to support VLAN tagging as well. You will need to create a separate SSID for each VLAN and specify the VLAN ID for each SSID. This will allow clients to connect to the appropriate VLAN based on the SSID they connect to.

Thanks very much for the pointers. There is a specific cable that I need to use? Crossover? Simple Patch cable? Currently using a Cat5e patch for testing purposes but a Cat6 patch is installed on site.

 

I will reset everything and attempt your walkthrough. When setting up the sub-interfaces I'm assuming I can add a DHCP server on each?

 

EDIT: I added all of my LAN's with appropriate subnets on the ER7206

I then added the Tagged flag on the two VLAN's that should be trunked on a single port.

As you can see, I want them to trunk on Port 4. Vlan 10 is a separate subnet that doesn't require tagging. I then setup the SG108E with the same VLAN information:

However, the only VLAN that works correctly is vlan20 which happens to be the PVID for port 4 on the ER7206:7876b82623834dceafaf07f8d1ff4a05

 

Am I missing something for either appliance?
