hi all,

 

I have 3pcs of EAP615-Wall(EU) accesspoints and I'm little bit surpeised, that on 5GHz there are only 4 channels available

 

normally on devices are channels 36/40/44/48/52/56/40/64 available at least, on some devices are additionally channels 100/116/132/149/165 available too (of course, channels 100+ can cause compatibility troubles with variety of devices, e.g. low cost mobile phones).

 

I've found a forum post from October 2022, which was unfortunatelly left unanswered from TP-Link side....

 

my question is: why are the channels 52/56/40/64 not available?

In Europe, the use of the 5GHz band is strictly regulated to ensure compatibility with other wireless devices (such as radar, satellite communications, etc.). According to the European wireless communication standard (ETSI EN 301 893), the following channels are permitted for use:

  • 36, 40, 44, 48: These are low-frequency 5GHz channels (also known as the UNII-1 band) and typically do not require Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) or Transmit Power Control (TPC).
  • 52, 56, 60, 64: These channels belong to the UNII-2 band but require support for DFS functionality.
  • 100-140: These channels belong to the UNII-2 Extended band and also require support for DFS and TPC functionality.

 

While EAP615-wall doesn't support DFS feature. That's the reason.

 

If you want to use the other channels, you can consider EAP655-wall, it supports DFS.

sorry, this important info is apparently withhold in specificatons on web for EAP615

 

and looking at datasheet PDF: there is only quite cryptic info about transmit power, which is definitely not the place where one looks for number of channels:

 

and you are referencing ETSI EN 301 893 - but there is no definotion of "Band 1", only "Sub-band 1".

 

as not all (even IT) people (me including till now) are familiar with this ETSI document, which focus is primarily on manufactures to comply with regulatory requirements, I would suggest adding another line to the specs (web and PDF) with list of supported channels to avoid any confusion.

 

now, out of curiosity, I've switched to EN site and realised, that EN version of web specs and DE ones (as I'm living in DACH region) have a "slight difference" at definition of Transmit power:

Thanks for your feedback. Wireless regulations vary from country to country and we must comply.
